Equestria Girls Specials!

 
New Equestria Girls! I'm a big fan of EG (as if my works here don't show that) and I immediately jumped at the chance to watch these in English. I wasn't really enthusiastic when they came out in Polish first and I resisted the urge to watch the subbed versions. Thank goodness I did.
 
Three special EG episodes and my god, I think they spoiled us with these: Dance Magic, Movie Magic, and Mirror Magic. I kind of wished they made an opening song for it but then it’s not really a series (Here’s hoping they do make it). And if I had to order them which I liked the most to least, it’ll probably be like: Dance, Movie, and then Mirror Magic.
 
I like Dance Magic most since it revisits an old cast of characters seemingly lacking screen time and dedication. But it’s not like this episode gives us more on the Shadowbolts’ characterization. More like a reminder of how they’re like in the movie they appeared in. Also, I’m not a fan of the song Dance Magic. The lyrics feel forced just to get a MLP-themed dance song.
 
Second on my list is Movie Magic. Here it confirms there are parallels in the pony world and human world, such as Daring Do. Makes me wonder if they made a Daring Do movie in Equestria as well. We are also introduced to Juniper. She’s an alright character, but suffers the same lackluster characterization as the Shadowbolts. All we know is that she likes Daring Do, wants to be Daring Do of the movie and that’s it. And also that she’s bitchy. The episode also attempts to create a mystery episode, but it’s so obvious right from the beginning. Eh. But we get to see the Mane Six, uh, seven, cosplay the Power Ponies. It’s also interesting Power Ponies are still called Power Ponies in the human world.
 
Last on this list is Mirror Magic. Here, we get a little teaser of Sunset going back to Equestria, and then Starlight Glimmer into the human world. I got to tell you guys, Starlight Glimmer got some rockin’ clothes! Juniper returns in this episode as the villain, and honestly she’s the most hilarious villain I’ve ever seen. People screaming in fear because she just walked in and she hasn’t done anything yet! Starlight’s face-off with Juniper is even more hilarious that I couldn’t even take the conclusion of the episode seriously. Also, fasting redemption for a villain!
 
All in all, I found myself wanting more of these episodes! I still think getting a EG series is still far-fetched. Voice actresses and animators will have double workload while working on MLP, so while I still want a series for it, I’m not going to expect one soon.
 
As for me, seeing this all new EG content really pumps me up to write a new EG short, but I’m focusing on Renegades final chapter and also, I do have another project I’ve been wanting to do. It’s going to have Sunset Shimmer as the protagonist, and as for the story, I’m a little too ambitious on it. I don’t want to create expectations yet, so I’m not announcing what’s it about for now.
