An Unexpected Thing I found Last Night. · 1:28pm May 29th, 2017

As you can tell from my profile description, I am a very avid Don Bluth fan, in fact he is one of the two people who inspire me to go into animation (the other being the late Ray Harryhausen). His movies, where the protagonists have to earn their happy ending, are also some of the inspiration of the darker, realistic tones in my stories.

Sadly, such creative freedoms are challenged by executive meddling. Near the end of their production, "All Dogs go to Heaven," "Rock-a-Doodle," and most famously "The Land Before Time" had their runtime trimmed because and I quote from Steven Spielberg himself on the production of "Land."

It's too scary. You're gonna have kids crying out of the theater and a lot of angry parents. You don't want that.

"Titan AE" also has deleted scenes, but they get released on DVD and available to the public eye. It isn't the same for the three films mentioned above. While we are slowly getting more deleted (unanimated, but still important) material for "The Land Before Time," the others have long since been considered long gone.

Or so we think...

Perhaps there is hope for "Dogs" after all.
