God's forgiveness and will to forgive · 10:16pm May 23rd, 2017

The most common misconception of God is a super-powered grouch who hands out salvation sparingly, if at all, and who takes the slightest opportunity to strike down anyone who strays even slightly from the righteous path.

NOTHING could be further from the truth.

God is described in His Word (the Bible) as being slow to anger (Psalm 103:8, Psalm 145:8) as well as rising early to warn sinners, and Jesus Himself tells us that God wants to give us the Kingdom (Luke 12:32). This does not fit at all with the mainstream view of God. If God really were such a grouch, He would never have even thought to send His Son to die and pay the price for our sins. And yet He did.

God wants to forgive people and heal them. The problem is that many people reject that offer of forgiveness, reject the offer of healing and redemption. Ultimately, God allows them to make their choice. And the consequences are not pleasant, not because God wanted to destroy them, but because they refused the very offer that would save them from destruction. As C.S. Lewis said, "In the end, there are two kinds of people; those who say to God, 'Thy will be done,' and those to whom, in the end, God says, thy will be done.' All that are in hell, choose it." The issue is not of God sending people to a fiery eternity, but of those people rejecting the Savior and eternal joy, and then misconstruing God's message so that they can justify their defiance of Him.

I love God, and those who make up all these false claims that God is evil only prove their ignorance of Him. To hear people like Richard Dawkins and Stephen Fry bash God (the latter, supposedly atheist, in the same skit where he blasphemed the Christian God actually upheld the pagan Greek gods; uhhhhh... what?) is to hear people who have no idea what it's like to be Christian and to have that special relationship. No, the Christian way of life is not without bumps in the road, to put it mildly. No, it's not always easy. In fact, a lot of the time, it's the opposite of easy. But it's worth it.

Ultimately, God takes no pleasure in the death of the wicked (Ezekiel 33:11). As ultimate Lawgiver and Judge, he must abide by the very laws He has set. If that were the end of it, we'd all end up in hell. But it isn't. Since man can't pay the price, God decided to take it upon part of Himself, Jesus Christ. Anyone who accepts His offer of life shall receive eternal joy. And that's something He wants to give us.

No doubt the center of this blog raises some eyebrows, and may distract readers from my meaning. However, I thought it was inconsiderate not to have all the truth here, both that we consider good and those we perceive as ugly. I'd otherwise be paying tribute to the idea that every one is going to be saved, and that's sadly not true. Not because God is not willing, but because people aren't willing. I may sound like a fanatic, and honestly, that's a perception I fear. But truth simply is. I couldn't re-read books on history and expect the parts of the book I didn't like to change based on my feelings. I can't distort God's message, much higher than history.

I hope this helps, and May God go with you all
