{Spoilers} Forever Filly and Parental Glidance · 4:49pm May 8th, 2017
Hello and welcome everyone to another pair of episode reviews. Thankfully, I found a pic that honestly does both episodes justice.
Forever Filly
We start off on a good note with a Rarity and Sweetie Belle episode. Those usually turn out well. Usually, I mean just one 'Sisterhooves Social'. The other two episodes, 'For Whom the Sweetie Belle Tolls'/'The Cart Before the Ponies' were both 'meh' episodes to me. Not bad, but they had their problems that held them back. As for the relationship between Rarity and Sweetie Belle, I will say that I do sympathize and enjoy watching their dynamic. Out of the three CMC sister duos, we honestly see the most conflict. Well, more believable conflict. {The conflicts between AB and AJ don't really seem to work, honestly. At least, in my opinion.} Still, they really do love each other. It's an interesting dynamic I'm glad to see again.
This episode I would put with Sisterhooves Social as one of the good episodes between the two sisters. I still like Sisterhooves Social more, but this was still a really good episode that hit me right in the feels. No seriously, I felt that punch and I loved it. I honestly don't know what it is about this season, but it seems to be trying for more mature lessons that sometimes target the older audience in more meaningful ways but still giving a story and such that younger audiences can enjoy.
With this episode, we get Rarity missing out on her time spent with Sweetie Belle. Also, SASSY SADDLES IS IN THIS EPISODE!!!! SHE"S BACK!!! AND SHE"S STILL ADORABLE!!! EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
You can probably tell I'm a pretty big Sassy Saddles fan.
But back to the topic, the episode is really about Rarity's desire to spend time with Sweetie Belle. During which, Sweetie Belle and the other CMC are helping Zippoorwhill. It's refreshing that they chose her instead of just making a brand new character. The past few seasons have done a really good job of using loved characters and settings and actually expanding upon them. Makes the whole world feel more real. Anyways, the conflict arises out of Rarity's desire to spend time with Sweetie Belle but she hasn't realized or a part of her doesn't want to realize that Sweetie Belle is growing up.
It's a believable set up and you really get to feel for both sides here. I sympathize with Rarity here because she does love her sister but because of her job and time, she won't ever get to be with her sister like they used to be because Sweetie's growing up. Sweetie basically has a business of her own. The conflict is handled really well and every step of the way you understand the characters and what they are going through. I'm sure a few parents and older siblings themselves will really connect with this episode.
The side-plot with Zippoorwhill wasn't AS good as the mainplot, honestly. While she is adorable, I kept wondering why no one told her that her dog wasn't a puppy before. I mean, dogs age faster then humans so did she expect him to age just like her? It's a very minor nitpick as this sideplot does give Sweetie the overall idea of the story and honestly, it is very clever in of itself.
So overall, a great episode about growing up and dealing with it and more Rarity/Sweetie adorableness.
Parental Glideance
I REALLY hope this episode doesn't become controversial for some reason because I am really sick of that happening with RD episodes.
Anyways, I have to say that this was another really mature episode. I absolutely adored RD's parents. While they are overbearing, they mean well and they never try to harm RD's standing with anyone. They are just really excited. Hay, I think this level excitement is understandable. I mean, they literally just found out RD is a Wonderbolt. That would get anyone in a frenzy. Though the fireworks.... were far too much. I say this since one of them almost smashed into Rainbow Dash and Fleetfoot. While I know ponies are very durable, that still would have hurt quite a bit so they were out of line in that moment. Otherwise, I loved them.
Speaking of Fleetfoot and the Wonderbolts, while they were minor, they were portrayed well. Teasing but nice. In all honesty, between Newbie Dash and this episode, I think Fleetfoot is the nicest of the bunch. If you remember Newbie Dash, she took her aside and told her that it was alright and that she'd get better after her crash. A part of me thinks she was just like a jerk in Rainbow Falls was because Spitfire was there. She seems to act nicer when she's alone. Hay, she even saluted Rainbow's dad and told him that his daughter is an excellent flier. Might have been to tease, but honestly, this was especially nice and powerful. She's nice, supportive, and if she doesn't get more popular now, I'll be disappointed.
Then we get to Scootaloo... I have to say, she is the heart of this episode. Without a doubt, that is a fact. Given her love of Rainbow, it was so sweet and lovable to see RD's parents interacting with her. As well, they are very supportive of lil Scootaloo and pretty much treat her as if she was their own. I know that's not 'technically' true, but that's what I got from it. I wasn't a fan of Scootaloo when the show began, but episodes like this are what changed my mind. She is a great little filly and now she has a loving family. Her scene with RD when Rainbow explains the situation was another emotional punch. The episode skirts around whether Scootaloo is an orphan or just has neglectful/really busy parents {probably the second}, but it's obvious she doesn't have the loving family that Rainbow has so seeing the end, where the group get together and cheer on Scootaloo was just so joyful and hilarious thanks to Cheerilee.
As for Rainbow herself, she was pretty alright in this episode. Her blow up on her parents was understandable and she quickly realized what she did was wrong.
Overall, another great episode.
Scootaloo part bat pony confirmed!

4524821 With a lot of Scootaloo love and yeah, that, it is. I have half a mind to give her some batpony blood in my Shimmerverse. {Might explain why she has basically saber teeth.}

Wish denied, another decisive Dash episode, this time centering on the fact that Rainbow was totally in the right to blow up at her parents. They and Scootaloo needed to learn the lesson, not Rainbow.
