Doctor Perseus Reviews: Doctor Who S10E1 "The Pilot" · 12:34am Apr 20th, 2017
Time to complete today's montage of reviews with my thoughts on the Series 10 opener!
It feels great for Doctor Who to finally be back with a new season. And I can easily say that this season has started on a good note.
As always, Peter Capaldi is great. Don't really need to go much into that. I'll just go ahead and give my thoughts on new companion: Bill Potts. I really like her. I think she and the Doctor bounce off each other really well, I like the questions she asks, and I'm looking forward to seeing how she reacts to her future adventures in the TARDIS. I also think that Bill's sexuality was handled very well. Not shoved in our faces and not treated like a gimmick. It's just there. A simple part of who she is. Plus, her crush on Heather was very cute. It's sad that things had to end the way they did but maybe we'll see Heather again someday. But, more importantly, I'm looking forward to seeing more of Bill. I would like to see her stay on past Series 10 and at least stay for Series 11 with the Thirteenth Doctor. But who knows what Chibnall will want to inherit from Moffat?
I'm also liking Nardole more and more with each new appearance. While he didn't do a lot in this episode, his interactions with the Doctor and Bill were very funny. I hope he gets further fleshed out throughout the rest of the season. Heather was also pretty likable for what we saw of her. She was a pretty tragic character given what happens to her. But she was also a pretty terrifying monster. She reminded me a lot of the Flood from The Waters of Mars. I can't believe we've yet to see the Flood again. We're even returning to Mars this season but only for the Ice Warriors! Come on!
For some of my favorite moments, they would have to include Bill finding pictures of her bio mom that the Doctor took, the pictures of River and Susan, and the Doctor being reminded of Clara wiping his memories in Hell Bent. It's nice to see that Clara isn't entirely forgotten.
Overall, I thought this was a great episode and a solid start for Series 10.
What did you think of The Pilot?
I also enjoyed this episode. Nardole was a great addition to The Doctor's crew this season. And Bill was fine I guess. I still haven't yet determined what I feel about her.
Interestingly enough, The Doctor hanging around this university with the TARDIS in his office reminded me a bit of Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency. Douglas Adams' original novel actually not the BBC America series. The book features a character who's a professor at Cambridge who no one is sure why he's there and he's pretty much a Time Lord because Adams' had originally created him for a Doctor Who script he had written that ended up not being completed.
Were you ever going to review Class? I think you once messaged me because you were watching it last year, but I waited until it came on BBC America, and it just finished its run a few weeks ago.

I watched Class back when it first aired. Now that you mention it, I might as well review it. I'll write it once I've reviewed the Series 10 finale and the Equestria Girls specials.
