Hey y'all, occasionally throughout the story I reference the "Sector" or the "Local Sector" I haven't bothered to define them because both words carry enough inherent meaning in a sci-fi setting that you as the reader can infer what I intend from them, but if you were curious I actually have numbers behind them. detailed below.

As always, the numbers are subject to change, especially with good argumentation. Regardless of argumentation, there will be quite a few species in the galaxy. Enough that with just eight or nine stars the NSR can be pressured on its exact borders by its neighbors. For story reasons more than any other.

Poltical/Geographic measures of the Galaxy:
Galaxy: the galaxy, duh. Not much happens on one side that can affect the other side. Really the only connecting thread is that all of the stars are orbiting the center of it, politically speaking. An estimated 110,000 sapient species in the galaxy.

Quadrant: One quarter of the Galaxy, information tends to not disseminate on this level, one side wouldn’t know the other. Estimated that there is around 27,500 sapient species per Quadrant

Sector: One hundredth of a Quadrant, 1/400th of the galaxy, What happens on one side will be rumored about on the other. The largest level that even important information can disseminate. On average 275 sapient species

Local Sector: one tenth of a sector, one thousandth of a quadrant, 1/4000 of the galaxy. This is the region of greatest relevance, one side will know the other with some intimacy, diplomacy is usually on this scale. On average 27 sapient species

Cluster: less of a specific measure of size, more of a geographic one, usually describes a tight group of stars, or a politically uniform or active region (say a war). Some are official, some are colloquial.
