Finally the MLP Movie Teaser is Out! · 5:39pm Apr 6th, 2017
Great! I thought I was going to have to risk a late night movie seeing of the Smurfs: The Lost Village after work tonight. Now that it's here, I don't have to do that (I need to recover after moving in any way).
Now that I've seen the ponies in action with Toon Boom, what do I think of it?
1) The animation has a similar framerate like that in the show, but that's possibly only for teaser trailer quality reasons.
2) It looks like they are reusing some symbols they've made such as the legs and mouths (I'm reusing my mouth symbols I made in Flash, so I have no grudge against the idea). It does appear that they are using deformers for the wings and hair (smart move).
Of course, this isn't the first media to use Toon Boom with MLP thanks to DuoCartoonist, and I may not even be the first one to try that with Equestria Girls. But with Season 7 and Netflix EG shorts coming out this summer being done with Animate CC already, we will have to wait until after the movie releases to see if they will completely make the jump to Toon Boom come Season 8 onwards.
On a personal level, it's actually a lot easier to change bases and make puppets with Toon boom (Masking for the eyes is a little tough though, but not impossible).
