"Lost to myself, but I'll just start again."

Last year I had this dream that I was at a state park somewhere, outside a big building, surrounded by people in costumes and con shirts. The party was inside: all my friends, all the fun. Trouble was, there was a sort of Sword Art Online thing going on. I was walking around in a game, and I was supposed to use the menus to equip things from my inventory so I could go inside. It reminded me of

    A Wild Willow Wren...Wappears

Waiting at an airport gate, bound for Baltimare and BronyCon. I've been too long away, and this happy return is just beginning to feel real.

Looking forward to catching up and excited for oodles of friendship and magic. I understand they go together.

    Nom de Plume de Pony

    Hello, horsefriends. Quick question.

Say somepony wants to start making pony music and their name sounds a lot like "Summer Rustle," would that be a good stage name?

    Asking for a friend. :ajsmug:

When We're Together: an original song and video for you, yes, you! · 6:55am Mar 22nd, 2017

Hi, I'm Willow Wren! You may know me as that person who posted a story here once, or perhaps as Background Mare #327 in Baltimare last summer. It was on the last day of that whirlwind--from a mix of pure wild magic and bittersweet emotion--that this song began to take shape. If you'd like to listen now, you can watch the video on YouTube below, or follow the BandCamp link to hear a high-quality version. After the links, some lyrics and a few more words.

"When We're Together" at BandCamp

***

"When We're Together"

As I awaken in the morning
There is a magic in the air
I know the voices of my people
Humming gently everywhere

And there is laughter from the hallway
Friendly faces come alive
As if we'd gathered in this place for always
Although we've only just arrived.

Now put on all your pretty ribbons, dear
And ring the bells and all draw near
So we may make our music bright
And paint the sky with sound and light
And sing in our imperfect harmony.

In the clasp of our reunion
Within the circle of our song
We are joined in absolution
We have found where we belong.

And so our memories will bind us
Though we may scatter with the wind
Home and family will find us
If we keep them close within.

So pack up all your pretty ribbons, dear
We'll bring them out again next year
And if we keep our music bright,
The time will fly until the night
We sing in our imperfect harmony.

We are waiting for the moment
We are holding to our someday dreams
When love will spill beyond the broken borders
And fill the spaces in between

When all our fretting and rehearsal
Set the stage for something new
Something more when we're together
Something wonderful and true.

Bring out all your pretty ribbons, dear
And ring the bells and all draw near
So we may make our music bright
And paint the sky with sound and light
And sing in our imperfect harmony

Put on all your pretty ribbons, dear
And ring the bells and all draw near
So we may make our music bright
And paint the sky with sound and light
And sing in our imperfect harmony
In harmony.

So you may notice a lot of musical references within the music here. This has a lot to do with my involvement in filk, or sci-fi/fantasy fandom music. I noticed a lot of similarities between our communities when I attended my first pony con, especially when it comes to trying our best to treat everypony with kindness and respect. I had such a warm and wonderful feeling at the end of the weekend, already looking forward to seeing my new friends again next time around. So I wound up writing this song as a dedication to multiple fandoms, and tried to capture a little of the spirit we strive for. Thank you, all of you, for your inspiration and your contributions to awesomeness and harmony. <3

On a personal note, I've been meaning for some time to post here again and try to get more involved with this community. The welcome I've received has meant so much to me. I haven't been able to keep up as I'd like, but I often read your blogs and stories and they always improve my day. Over the last few years, this fandom has given me a lot of joy in times of desperate need. It still does. We're all fighting monsters, and my own are of the garden variety--chronic pain, depression, anxiety--but of course it doesn't take much monster to keep us busy, does it?

Writing is one thing that's gone by the wayside for me--verbal communication is much harder than it used to be--but I still sing. Now I sing for you in gratitude. With your help, your encouragement, your enthusiasm, your example, I know I can only do more.

Absolutely stunning and know I'm happy to listen and support you if I can. I can relate on those topics.

4468507 Hey, thanks! When I attempted this earlier, it didn't work. I guess it just needed a little Bad Horse magic. *hat tip*

4467650 I appreciate that, thank you. And please know the offer is returned. <3 I'm so glad you enjoyed the song!

Willow: the trick is, DON'T use the URL that YouTube provides via the "share" function below its video window; DO use the URL in the URL field at the top of your browser. Just copy that and paste it into the URL field of FiMFic's YouTube-embedding popup.

Someone should put a little advisory on that popup window...
