As a little boy, I remember seeing bits and pieces of the original Disney film, and it was only around middle school that I watched the film in it's entirety. I enjoyed it. And now as an animation student with a growing critique skill (why do I make these review blogs), I can be the judge on this one of many remakes Disney has done to it's classics.

So what does old Jongoji think of it? This is gonna give me a lot of flack when I wake up, and it's not a bad film, don't get me wrong. And I humbly respect your opinion (as I would await those from the original crew such as Glen Keane, James Baxter, and Alan Menken).

...

It's just completely unnecessary. A film that was nominated for an academy award, an unheard of achievement in the world of animation, and is part of the Congress Film Archive for being groundbreaking. Isn't that enough to keep it one of a kind?

It adds very little new stuff to the story aside from a few new songs and a catalyst similar to the original story. A stark contrast to the remake of "The Jungle book" which adds a lot from the book and making it an enjoyable adventure. I did hope for a Galavant vibe, but I didn't laugh or cry throughout. And with CGI being commonplace these days, it didn't feel special to me like the original did. Now with the "Lion King" getting a remake, I'm worried about what Disney will do to leave better enough alone.

But I'm not going to stop you, I am no one's master. If you want to see it for yourself, be my guest. Only by bearing witness can you understand.

I have no intentions to see it, the Beast looks like a rejected faun or satyr from The Chronicles of Narina, Emma is a meh actress, even in Harry Potter, and really there is no need for this film, heck a re-release of the animated film would have gotten Disney so much more money at a fraction of the cost and Paige O'Hare, not only can actually sing, she IS Belle.
