From Flash to Toon Boom: Day 4/Plus an Afternoon Announcement · 8:16pm Feb 5th, 2017

I've tried out the bone deformers on a tracing of Midnight's wing; as I predicted, the wing moves perfectly, and I can morph the normally curved wing into a straight one. That, combined with a profile view of her, can help give the impression of a soaring flight. Likewise, I also found that I can add additional bones to a selected joint. However, unless I can find a way to do this correctly, the result is very messy. For now, a standard 3 joint armature will work for a bird and pterosaur wing. For a bat wing, which incorporates the entire hand, might require more joints, and research will be done.

I have played with the nodes a little as well; combining the blur node with the glow node reproduces the flow effect on the white line of Midnight's inner wing, and can be done easily when making her crooked horn or Daydream Shimmer's horn. Magical auras might require some "R&D," but since the MLP movie is going to be animated with Toon Boom, my "guess" would be corrected come October. I personally would love to see if I can animate some effects.

Anywho, onto my announcement. Today marks the day of the first entry to the "Other Visits Saga: The Perfect Dinosaur." While a few know this saga best from "EG: The Rubicon," it's more fitting to start the anniversary here as the rest of the stories get their anniversary.
