'Fallout Equestria: Letters to Celestia' Excerpt from 'Chapter Eight: Dear Princess Celestia, now there's a Sight for Sore Eyes'
(WARNING: Excerpt contains adult language.)
-----------------I turned away from his antics only to yelp in surprise as a ghoul came upon me. It’s weight drove me to the floor, knocking my gun from my maw. Shoving my prosthetic up, I shoved the metal into its snapping mouth as it tried to chew on me. I fumbled blindly for my gun with my other hoof, but couldn’t find it. I turned in the hopes of catching a glimpse of it but my vision suddenly became obscured. “Oh that's just fucking gross!” I complained as the undead bastards drool dripped over my glasses. I tried to look under or over them, but while my eyes weren’t that bad I still couldn’t find my gun through my blurry vision. Grunting from the effort, I punched out hard, snapping the ghoul back for a moment. I took the momentary respite to quickly wipe my glasses, smudging the drool but at least making things visible again. The ghoul launched back at me, I raised my hooves to defend myself, managing to brace its hooves away from me as its jaws snapped close to me. I turned my head, trying to avoid the chomping teeth. “Oh.. just… fuck off!” I grunted, my eyes screwed shut. I opened them to a see Sonnet nearby holding my gun in her magic. She was aiming it at the ghoul on me, her tongue sticking out of the corner of her mouth in concentration.
“Oh fuck!” I yelled and tried to push the ghoul as far away from me as possible as the gun went off. I swear my heart stopped beating for just a second as skull and brain-matter splashed my face and the ghouls corpse fell against me. With some effort, I pushed it off and stood up quickly.
I looked to Sonnet who was looking from me to the ghoul. “I hit it!” She seemed quite shocked at that fact, which in itself did nothing to comfort me.
I snatched the gun from her magical grip, not trusting her to keep hold of it. “Please never do that again.” I told her her through grit teeth, not entirely sure my heart had managed to recover yet.
“Well I’d have used my own gun, except-” She pulled it out and popped the magazine, giving me an unimpressed look, “-someone took all my fucking ammo!”
“Yeah, sorry about that.”
“I could have slutting died! Poison darts don’t work on ZOMBIES!” She yelled, puffing up indignantly.
I rolled my eyes, “okay, first off, didn’t know there’d be ghouls, poison darts would work fine on raiders. Secondly, I don’t yet actually trust you with a real gun. And thirdly, that is NOT the way to use that swear word.”
She was about to retort when an otherworldly scream from nearby sent a shiver down my spine. A green glow bathed the area and I watched as dead ghouls began twitching, watching as those with destroyed heads began trying to stand again.
“Shitty!” Sonnet yelled as a ghoul bathed in a green glow rushed out from nearby. I took aim and fired, but my shot missed the mark, the bullet embedding into its shoulder rather than it’s head. It barely grunted at the impact, it’s hooves rearing up and striking me hard. I lost my balance and fell back, pain spasming up my back as it descended on Sonnet.
Stranger’s shot was loud. The ghouls skull exploded and it’s body erupted in hot green flame.
Among the flames, we heard Sonnet scream.
“GET HER OUT OF THERE!” I yelled, trying to pull myself up.
Lucky was there before I’d even gotten to my hooves. He kicked hard at the burning ghoul, freeing the screaming filly from under it. He reached down and dragged her away. I ran over, Lucky’s form obscured my form, but the small glimpse I got to see… was black flesh.-----------------------
