So, what do you consider to be a sin? · 2:16am Feb 2nd, 2017

I personally believe that anything you greatly regret doing after you've done it is a sin. I really want to know your opinion on the subject though.

I accept the formal definitions of sin myself.

However, one particular thing I consider to be a sin is schadenfreude.

4406296 I could never see schadenfreude as a sin, but rather as a mental problem. I was unaware there were is a formal definition of sin.

I'm talking about dictionary definitions. They're pretty official to me. :twilightsheepish:

To feel pleasure at another's misfortune may arise out of a sort of vindication, but since we all have our own paths to lead in life, and the hands that we are dealt are not always fare, I would say satisfaction derived from another's proverbial throes is unrighteous.

I personally feel a sin is an action that to some deep level you know that it was wrong or immoral. If you make excuses so you can avoid feeling guilt or regret about doing it; then deep down I think you know that it was wrong but have no desire to make amends or change anything.

Feeling regret for a sin is when you make a conscious connection that you did something wrong.

4406310 I agree with the official definition :) I just have my own "Divine morals", that I believe many do not agree with XD although these "Divine morals" are not based in any popular religion from what I know, except Shintoism (which I don't believe to be popular).
I agree that it would be unrighteous for one to find pleasure in another's pain, but if you were referring to someone who could only be happy through other people's pain then I would consider them to be a righteous individual if they tried to cause pain to others to feed into their desire.

4406311 I agree with your definition more than my own.

So you wouldn't consider schadenfreude selfish if that were the only thing that could please a person?

4406333 I've never defined selfishness as a bad thing, nor have I defined righteousness as selflessness.

Here's something to digest:

Suspicious.-- To admit a belief merely because it is a custom - but that means to be dishonest, cowardly, lazy! - And so could dishonesty, cowardice and laziness be the preconditions for morality?

-Friedrich Nietzsche

The Seven Deadly Sins, obviously.

Although, I also count stupidity to be a sin in some forms. Like a dumbass commenting on your story that he's written better even when he has fucking zero.
