Hanazuki: Full Of Treasures · 12:52am Jan 28th, 2017
I apologize for not updating my blog yesterday, but I had caught a slight head cold from wandering around in heavy rain at night and was quite incapable of functioning properly.
Therefore, last night, I made dinner (shrimp scampi, if you were wondering, with garlic-and-herb tomato sauce and fresh vegetables) and then went straight to bed without further ado. Nothing very exciting happened to me elsewise, unless you can call having a headache and being unable to breathe properly an 'adventure'.
The past few days, I've been watching the classic Captain Harlock: Space Pirate series on TubiTV. It's quite good. The premise is that evil, sexy Alien women made of flowers have decided to annex the Earth for their own purposes, which have not been made very clear yet. I imagine I will find out eventually.
Before each episode, there is an advertisement for a show called "Hanazuki: Full of Treasures", which is so Japanese-inspired I thought it was a dub of an Asian show, and apparently I was not the only one who thought so, after researching it on the Interweb.
It is actually an American production, and I like it a lot because it is very much like something I would want to make. A cursory glance at my fanfics show a heavy anime-inspired influence.
It's free to watch on Youtube, so if you can get a chance, do so.
Hanazuki, who is a magical girl...derp, I mean, a Moonflower...reminds me of a slightly condensed Ryuuko Matoi from Kill la Kill, right down to the feisty attitude and short skirts. She even grows bright red hair at one point - in fact, it's in the preview screenshot for this video. She totally looks like a squished Ryuuko here.
At one point she complains about the same thing I've been complaining about for the better part of my life:
"Is THIS the world you want to live in? I'd prefer someplace a little better than that!"
Me too, thanks, Hanazuki.
Personally, Sleepy Unicorn is my favorite from Hanazuki. I watched all nine of these right when they came out, and am waiting on more, actually.
Did you know Hanazuki's headed by Dave Polsky? If any of the writing seems familiar, it is! (And that first episode was specifically written by him.)
