    Words for the dead.

I've made a few friends on here. People I think of outside this site. People who's conversation I value, who's name and face I know.

One of these souls is no longer with us.

Late in February TheMyth passed away from medical complications due to an infection.

Equestrian festival idea. · 3:21pm Dec 23rd, 2016

I've noticed Equestria is missing two festivals. There really should be a harvest festival. They're still a largely agrarian society. Shortly before Running of the Leaves, there should be a celebration for getting all the food in. Not only is it a chance to unwind after all the hard work of harvest season, but it's also a good way to eat the last of the fresh food that will spoil soon. (side note: I would also expect to see some canning bees in the days before.)

The other festival is more specific to their equestrian nature. After a long winter, seeing fresh, tender grass growing again would be a big deal to them. It's a sign that the lean times are over, a meal is only as far away as the nearest tuft of grass.
I've named the occasion to celebrate this, First Grazing. It would start about about a fortnight after Winter Wrap Up

First Grazing has evolved in modern Equestria as a time to clean out the house, and reconnect with ponies that you didn't see much over winter. Before winter, preserved food is put up, but by spring a lot of it is at the end of its shelf life. Instead of letting it go bad, everypony brings out their leftover stores, and shares it in one town-wide potluck. During First Grazing, front doors are left open. Traditionally, the front door was taking off it's hinges, every house using it to set a public table in the yard.

The event lasts four days, with the first two dedicated to eating and drinking, and the last 2 for helping clean(though there is still a lot of eating). All the canning jars are washed and stored, everypony gives their home a good spring clean, and any damage to public property is repaired.

I like this!

As Pinkie said above, headcanon accepted!

that second festival definitely sounds interesting

As far as the harvest festival, I've seen references to "Winter Warm-Up". You're right, it seems unthinkable that there would be nothing.
