Finished! · 7:49am Dec 17th, 2016
Hey everyone! Good news for you all!
Today I finally finished writing on the first draft of my newest story. I feel so sad and exhausted yet also so excited that it's finally done. I've been writing this thing behind the scenes since January, and that means it took me more or less a full year to get it all done. But, it's finally written, and after editing, all 32 chapters (plus prologue and epilogue) will be released on a weekly basis. The 366 pages and 195730 words (in the first draft, mind you) will be posted to the site over the course of 2017. I'm currently deciding between Mondays or Fridays (or maybe even wildcard Wednesday), probably around 9PM EST. I don't know when fimfic is most heavily trafficked, but I hope the story has a strong showing.
Well, what is the story? It's a grand sci-fi epic that will span four books; this is only the first book. If you think some mashup of Borderlands, Fallout, and Halo sounds like an interesting idea for a setting, then I've got you covered. I've even completed the description for your viewing pleasure:
The Equestrian Synarchy once ruled the world. Her military was strong, her technology leaps and bounds above her contemporaries, and her feats of engineering the marvel of civilization. Her touch even reached the stars, and a colony was founded on the planet Auris, light years away. It was to be the crown jewel of Equestria's achievements, a haven for ponies in the vast wilderness of space. There would be nothing she couldn't accomplish.
And then she died.
Nearly two hundred winters have passed since Auris received its last transmissions from the home world of Equus. Not yet self-sufficient, the colony collapsed into chaos, lawlessness, and civil war. In the end, any semblance of a functioning society was destroyed, and the colonists scattered to the winds to escape the carnage. Now, they scrape out meager lives, hoping that the dangerous wildlife and local bandit groups will pass them over, unaware of the fate that befell their home world.
And then, one day, a satellite dish perched high atop a mountain received a signal from deep space, and The Silence ended...
Like I said before, I plan to start releasing the story in January, but at the moment, I'm waiting on artwork to be completed. The story will of course have a cover crafted by Ruirik, but it will also feature a map for you to look at and get a sense of where things are and colorized chapter art so you can visualize the characters. This is going to be my biggest project to date, and I hope you'll enjoy reading it as much as I've enjoyed writing it.
Oh, and of course, how could I forget the title?
Two Thousand Miles: The Echoes of the Past
Let's make sci-fi great again!

(My apologies to anyone who speaks French if I butchered the language via Translate, but if you are a native speaker, drop me a message. The story features a Prench character, and I'd like to have someone who speaks the language help me with some of her dialogue instead of relying on Google Translate.)
Now THIS is something I can be excited for. I recently peaked an interest in Sci-Fi after playing Mass Effect for the first time.
