Okay, so for those of you who're looking for an excellent read: Touch the Sun by little big pony is well worth the read. Never mind that it's been on the top of the featured list since it first published and is now four chapters in and is likely to be featured long after it's completed, this story is absolutely remarkable for a couple reasons.
The writing is professional grade and if the writer had a proofreader to go through and correct the very few spelling errors, it'd be perfect; you'd swear that you were reading from a well-known author and not a fanfic writer like the rest of us. His/her ability to create the scenery and provide just enough detail to show the blooming relationship between Jon and Celestia actually makes you feel like you're there and living in Jon's skin. I never feel that when I'm reading I'm trying to find better words to describe the scene like I'm so used to doing, LBP's word selection is damn near perfect in every sense. It's been such a long time since I've read or written anything that I can safely say I just enjoyed reading and not editing as I went along. The pacing is just wonderful, by the way. You don't feel unnecessarily rushed or like things are dragging on and on and on like what I've read in quite a few stories. The author has found the perfect balance and it is something I find myself quite jealous over.
The mannerisms of Jon are exceptional and, like I just said, makes you feel what he's feeling as he's feeling it/your reading it. I will make a note, however, that I don't quite feel like Celestia has been portrayed like what we're used to seeing: a caring and motherly figure of authority. Don't get me wrong, LBP's portrayal of Celestia is still amazing, she doesn't feel like a figure of authority, but like that "just another mare" thing that every other author tries to accomplish but puts a semi-fresh spin on things to actually do it well.
A warning that you may want to be aware of: I am quite certain that this is supposed to end up a clopfic, but not quite in the sense of what you may be used to (short simple and good for a quick jerk) in that this is taking the time to establish the love and relationship and is building up to the sex as opposed to just "Character is in heat and wants a good fuck". I must mention that, if it weren't for the planned clop later on in future chapters, this story could pass for a Teen rating quite safely; don't really have to worry about all that much language as it's pretty much all canonically colloquial in nature and there's certainly no graphic scenes (as of writing this post) as the story is taking place in basically one location with the occasional poke to a kitchen/dining room.
All in all, a story that I highly recommend as it stands out over the often wordy/too long/too short/ just not well written (cough *me* couch) stories by leagues.
