Stranger Than Fan Fiction, various thoughts · 6:26pm Jul 30th, 2016

The hiatus is finally over! It's been a long few months, and I'm quite happy for my weekly fix of pony being back.:yay:
So, then, with all of the conventions and events around, we get this episode. A rather fun kind of episode. Is there something to this episode that warrants analysis? Let's see. Unto the thoughts! (Few as they may be, as I'm not at home right now.)

—If there is any episode that confirms something is actively preventing ponies from recognising the group as anything special, it's this episode. The receptionist refusing to believe Rainbow knows Yearling aside, there is something rather odd about a talking pony in a land of magic and magical creatures considering hidden temples and mystic artefacts unrealistic. Granted, constant defiance of absolute death in a story can damage one's suspension of disbelief, but it's not like Equestria hasn't seen it's fair share of cataclysms!
—I like how Quibble actually has a pretty legitimate argument for his dislike of the newer series. He longs for the intellectual challenges. Most likely, something's changed in Yearling that's made her more of an action-based pony— or alternatively, the writer of the series changed after the initial trilogy. Also, it's interesting how relevant this is to fiction writers in general.
—I know this is meant to be a Rainbow-centric episode, but I'd have liked Twilight tagging along.
—Apparently, there are hardcore fans of Daring Do that can rival calculating Youmu's exact speed during "200 Yojana in One Flash" in dedication. On that note, just how does Quibble know the order of the tiles in that booby-trapped hall? Do the books really dwell on such details, or do they give just enough for fans to be able to figure them out? Enough for Rainbow to do so as well? Or, maybe she's catching a bit of egg-headedness.:3
—Finally they mention the Griffon Kingdom again! Hope that means we'll see Gilda soon.

It's a funny episode that introduces some new memes.
I think the most noteworthy thing for me was what it was showing about fandoms and conventions.

This week's addition to the soundtrack is filled with dramatic orchestralisation~
