So I've got a bit of a question. · 1:30am May 28th, 2016
I've looked around the site for a while and I've noticed that a lot of people have 'Paytreon' and other stuff, I'm not sure what the deal with that is. The reason I ask is because things are rather tight in the budget department here at 'The Boss Industries', but it doesn't feel right to ask for money for stuff that's basically something I do for fun. At the same time it's something that I do put a considerable amount of time and effort into, almost a second job in a sense. My question to you guys is should I put one of those things up? It feels morally dubious.
If you enjoy doing it and spend a large amount of time on writing then it simply means that people enjoy the work and effort you put into entertaining them.
Patreon is for people who would otherwise be forced to reduce the amount of time spent on writing/art/videos and it's a way for the fans of the person's work to help out however they are able.
Hell many YouTubers do it so they can devote more time towards doing what they do best.
No shame in it and it's a great way for devoted fans to help out their favourite author or vice versa.
Depends. If you want to play it safe, yet want to have one, label it as a 'tip jar' instead of a funds thing.
Putting up disclaimers and trigger warnings might help too. (Probably not that last one.)
I think the key is, is that you can't really deny access to parts of a story for just patreon subscribers as it lowers the fanbase of those who cannot afford it and thus it means less people can enjoy the work you do and it creates a few raw feelings towards the work they aren't allowed to see.
So it's mostly a " It's dangerous to go alone, take this!" Kind of thing.

I'd never deny a reader anything I write! That ruins the whole point of writing! I dunno, it just seems like a petty thing to do. That's why I'm asking you guys before I do anything, and I'll mention it in the next chapter I release as well. I figure other people do it, but at the same time, part of me thinks of it as wrong.

Nothing wrong with needing help every now and again.
3977848 < this guy makes a good point though.
3977848 What sort of Disclaimers?
3978028 As in "THIS IS NOT FOR MY WRITING BUT FOR MY POCKETS!" Or something.

Of course I'd do that... I'm just not sure if I should make a patreon, do you think people would really pay for the stuff I do?

S-sonuvabitch. That was a bit harsh there.
I think it's in need of a more gentle approach.
Like, say "hello, I hope you guys enjoyed reading and hope you had some fun but, I have a situation. See, writing takes up a large amount of time and effort to continue to produce chapters of this scale...and I can't devote so much time whilst supporting myself to do something that is as time consuming as this.....so I'm asking for some help."
This can of course, be shortened down and reworked to fit the theme but it sends a message that you love doing this....but at the same time it doesn't put food on the table.

Another possible thing to do is that if you can draw and or are good at creating custom images/one shots then you can get commissions for any work that you do for others.
It's not much help I know :/ but I've never really done much in the way of fundraising efforts other then help my niece.

I'll see about looking into it. On paper my drawing is actually pretty alright, but making the switch to digital has been difficult.
Hey its a way to keep writing in a way its not bad to ask for help mean if you make one you would be able to use the money for what you need your storys are awsome and if they where books that I had to buy I would so if you made one so it would be easier for your budget im sure people would understand and help just my input :)
3978413 try queeky its easy to do and on e you learn all the tools its quite fun :) you can use it on paper drawings to mines blackkingclaw the references where drawings from paper that I uploaded and edited
