I finally gave in and just published the first chapter of the ponyfic I was working on. It could use a second editing pass, but it has been waiting for months at this point and I finally got to the point where it was either put it out in its current form or not at all. Given my priorities, I picked put it out in its current form. So if you do check it out please forgive the flaws. I also should get started on the writeoff story.

Use of Weapons (A Culture Novel Book 3) by Iain M. Banks
Ooooooh, Use of Weapons. I had very mixed feelings about that book. I can't even tell you why now, just that it was excellent and yet grated at me in some indefinable way... but then I could say that about all the Culture novels to some degree.

I want to like them and there is so much cool worldbuilding in the background. Just seems that the author and I have wildly different opinions on what makes a story interesting.
