'No Second Prances' returning character concern · 6:01pm Apr 22nd, 2016
SPOILERS
It's official, Trixie is coming back to dazzle us with her greatness and powerfulness once more, and I am paranoid as hell that they are going to ruin her.
Based on what we know about the episode so far, Starlight has seemingly befriended Trixie, and Twilight is apparently not too fond of the arrangement because reasons. This premise in itself could result in a really profound and memorable episode, potentially one of the best of the series's run.
But I'm a pessimist so I'm thinking it will destroy any potential Trixie had as a character for good.
In the clip, Starlight and Trixie are already friends, and Trixie looks pretty evilish. This is my concern: that Trixie will devolve into a full on villain again only for the writers to further Starlight's story and once again to make Twilight indisputably right about everything. I think that Trixie's friendship won't be genuine and it will instead be a petty scheme just to screw with Twilight.
I hope I'm wrong.
One of the more hopeful possibilities is that their friendship is genuine, but Trixie's whole persona puts Twilight off, and by the end she finds that her concerns are completely unfounded. Another could be that Trixie is planning a scheme, but actually does befriend Starlight for real by the end the episode and reforms for good. Basically I just don't want the episode to end on a negative note like Boast Busters with no character happy and no conflict solved. There's a lot of potential for a great story here and I hope that this has been fully realised.
I know it's stupid to speculate seeing as we only know 30 seconds of what's going to happen, but I'm just concerned. I'm invested a lot in these characters and it would really suck if Trixie's potentially final appearance was terrible.
There's still some hope though given the care that went into characters like Gilda, Sunset and Discord when they went through their own reformations. Also, considering Trixie's portrayal in Equestria Girls, the comics, and the fact that she has her own book coming out, it's still possible they'll write her positively. We can only wait and see and judge.
So yeah, No Second Prances, please don't suck.
The clip in question
My fear as well, BUT, I think the writers are smarter than this. Twilight hasn't been right ALL the time. In fact, I'd say she's put in a very poor showing as the Princess of Friendship so far. My hope is that this will be a learning experience for all of them and we come away with some feelings. Perhaps not as profound as "Amending Fences", but we can only wait and see.
The speculation is going to kill us all.
