Oceans Made of Words! · 6:26pm Apr 12th, 2016
In the past week I have made breakthroughs in terms of writing that really make me happy. In the last ten-ish days, I think I wrote 13,000 words, which if you ask me is hell of a lot of words. Where do they come from? Beats me with a stick! And what is to top it all off, I think these sections will really rock you! They are really punchy! I've made worlds of improvement in writing in the past year. I feel like I am starting to get the hang of pulling on those writing energies out of the aether. Chapter 4 Gardens, is currently at a whopping 40k words, and I plan on finishing up the last scene today if I can help it. That's 4k shorter than the infamous Canterlot chapter in the original FOE. The chapter will probably be broken up into parts, because a document that many words deep is the type of thing a person could drown themselves in. So, to save lives, that is probably how it will happen. If there are people who are proficient in editing who have time and interest in helping edit this silly wasteland story, Nasty Hooves would be rather grateful to have some extra eyes to help him out.
Speaking of editing, editing is happening! We are going bit by bit through the next 8k section. A week earlier I reworked a recent section, making things more intense and fleshing things out. I went in with the intention of editing 4k, left having written 4k and editing 8k. They are some really good scenes with some incites into who our characters are in our story. The characters have already gotten to show off skills and demonstrate their attitudes, but remember what I said at the beginning of Chapter 1, "Perspective is everything."
So, I am trying to get the next sections out as soon as possible, but it may take time on the editing end. We want to make it so everything makes sense and the number of errors is minimal. I still want to keep up interest in Joker's Wild, because I like to think there is a lot of dramatic, hilarious, mysterious, philosophical, imaginative, and inspiring things that this story can bring you all. It is a weird story by FOE standards, and I think it is a strength of it, but to keep people's interest, I want to know what I can do to make you guys happy.
There are lots of little extra bits that I can drop along the way. Do you guys like character bios? Do you guys want to hear about scenes that got cut that were funny but just didn't fit into the scheme of things? Would it be cool to talk about some of ambient things going on in the world? Would you guys like things Calypto and Tumbleweed bantering off about nonsense? We have had some talk about having Calypto and Tumbleweed commentaries on other FOE stories as an advertising element. Right now, Joker's Wild is fairly small, and it may never get bigger than this, but given the size of the audience, I am more willing to listen and accommodate you who read in these early stages. I want to keep your interest, because this is a fun story, and I want people to enjoy it.
I like to hear behind the scenes stuff, so yes!
