Who do I write stories for?
Well, I write stories for both of us: Me and you.
Changeling Doll: White Lie is a story for you guys. That means that as I write, I'm considering you guys and your reactions, your attention span, your concern and love for the characters and their part in the story, etc. I want to please you guys. I want to make you guys happy with it. I also want to surprise and intrigue you with a story involving mystery, conspiracy, and betrayal. I want to write a story for everyone to enjoy.
However, stories like The Unfaithful Student, Little Butterfly, Lovely Time, Twilight Time, and A Better Love Story than Twilight are stories for me, either to let loose a little emotional steam, or to spend some time honing the artistic side of my craft. These stories are not meant to pander to you guys. I write them for myself, to enjoy the process of creation, and the process of emoting through the art form of words, but I let you read them if you want to. That's what publishing them is for.
I focus more of my efforts on the stories for you guys though. That's why Changeling Doll: White Lie will likely be finished before any of the other stories even continue.
And it's interesting, the contrast between the two writing forms. In one, I listen to the readers, their comments, and consider the things that they say and the input that they give. Every last drop of it. In the other, I read the comments, but mostly ignore them if they go against what I have planned for the story and its artistic technique. On one side, I'm worried about the public perspective, on the other, I don't care. On one side, my motivation is to please, on the other, to release.
Just some random thoughts from a silly writer of pony fanfiction.
