3795280 Venom's actual origin? Needs very little Spider-Man in it when you look at it like like this. He named himself Venom because, being forced to write for a tabloid magazine and "spewing vile and venom" in it as Eddie put it, he took the name Venom symbolically. Eddie Brock is a writer, he is generally pretty good with words, he could come up with that on his own. Now he's calling himself Venom.... What has venom? Spiders and snakes. He gives himself snake fangs as Venom and a spider logo, because let's be honest spider being the MAIN theme makes more sense if he's gonna be wall crawling and so on. Why would he be wall crawling? It's a confirmed power symbiotes have, nothing new from Peter.
You don't NEED Spider-Man in the origin to make it work.
Also? Sony is under Marvel's direction now when it comes to ANYTHING Marvel related they do. They can't so much as wipe themselves without Marvel giving it the OK.

Venom NOT being an MCU movie is actually a GOOD thing... Here's why.
It's really simple.
The MCU has been confirmed as NOT going to have ANY R-rated movies, ever.
The Deadpool movie is Marvel, but NOT part of the MCU - and thus, was able to be made R-rated.
Now, be honest... If you're gonna have a movie based on Venom... It kinda needs to be R-rated, or at least close-to-R-rated.
Venom movie IN MCU could NOT get R-rated.
Venom movie OUTSIDE MCU CAN get R-rated.

as far as I've heard, Venom is NOT mcu, but I don't know WHY he's not mcu.
But since Sony is making the Venom movie, I assume they still own him.
Which means, Sony might not want him in MCU, they might want to keep him for themselves to get a larger percent of the profits
once it hits the theaters. Plus, Marvel has the MCU planned out years ahead already, and maybe Venom is not part of the timelines
they're using for the movies, since they all focus on and around, and leading up to, the Infinity Wars.
I have not read those comics, so I don't know if Venom or Spider-man was actually involved in that timeline.
I DO know Avengers and Guardians of the Gaaxy is included in the Wars, but I DON'T know who else is or isn't.
My guess is, Venom is NOT, and thus, a Venom movie would not fit into the current MCU, and therefore his movie is made
outside of it, just like the Deadpool movie.

3795324 Well, that's one way to see it, BUT...
Like someone pointed out here, this Venom movie will NOT feature Spider-Man, at least not much.
It's a stand-alone Venom movie, focusing mainly (or only) on Venom, without Spider-Man.
Suppose for example, it could be set in a parallel timeline / universe, one in which Peter never became Spider-Man,
and therefore does not exist when the symbiote comes to Earth, and finds Eddie. Instead of Spider-Man, Venom would
have to fight against the army - and possibly get captured, allowing for the Symbiotes timeline to exist,
the one in which the army clones Venom to create an entire group of symbiotic super-soldiers.
(I know that timeline DID include Spider-Man as well, but in a Spidey-free parallel universe, it could still be done without Spidey.)
Or, it could go as far back as beginning on the symbiote homeworld, BEFORE Venom ever came to Earth at all,
and tell the story of HOW and WHY he left the homeworld to come here, and be some sort of origin story for him,
and work as a prequel to his appearance in the already existing Spider-Man movies.

I'm fully aware of the Symbiote soldier program, with Venom, Carnage, Scream, Agony, Anti-Venom, and so on.
What I meant was, they could use that in the movies, just use the parts where Spider-Man was NOT involved,

3795352 If you want an Eddie Brock Venom that's like the comics this movie won't be it because be needs Spidey to make him what he is and taking Spidey out of that will just mess it up. Also if the deal between Sony and Marvel is for Spidey and his villains to be in the MCU then why do they need the Venom movie?

and such, I have NOT read the actual comics - I do intent to do so at some point though.
Comics and Cartoons (and the movies) I HAVE seen / read only included Venom and Carnage, the others I only know of from wikis
and pictures, I don't know of the actual events, personalities, and so on (yet).
Still, I DO believe this WOULD make an interesting movie, or a nice end-of-movie-"twist", introducing the other syms at the end
as a tease for a sequel.

Also, if you read the comments here, One guy gave a VERY GOOD version of Eddie Brock becoming Venom WITHOUT Spider-Mans
involvment, which could EASILY be used in a movie.
