[ I’ve got a moment to myself now that Apple Bloom is running around in the yard.
She’s still Apple Bloom. She’s some animal I’ve never seen before in my entire life, but she talks, and she’s my Apple Bloom. ]
I still don’t know what’s going on. I also didn’t go to school—family took priority. Pinkie Pie texted me to insist that I show up, or else Principal Celestia would disqualify me from the election.
Like I ever cared if I won—I wanted to shove Sunset Shimmer off her pedestal, not wear a crown and wave all fancy-like. Let her be Fall Formal Princess if she really wants it. I’m sure she’ll find the taste of victory to be bitter dregs now.
Speaking of texts, I got one from Twilight Sparkle that managed to throw me for a loop, despite the fact that I didn’t think such a thing was possible after what happened. First she tells me that hiding in CHS’s ex-statue was a walk-through teleporter. She’s put it back together, but she’s afraid of using it for fear of alerting whoever’s on the other side. But she’s certain that somebody did use that teleporter to come here from who knows where, and that’s when she drops the bombshell: she used some sort of device she built for seeing electro-what-hickey signatures or something like that to spy on us in the lunch room yesterday, which she said gave her “proof positive” that Sunset Shimmer was an invader from another (magical) planet.
I was sore tempted to finally call her out on all of her magic hooey, until I read her description of what Sunset “really looks like”: a little four-legged critter with a long snout and flowing mane. Now, that could be all kinds of things, but you know as well as I do, Diary, that what I was thinking was that Sunset’s the same kind of critter as [ my little sis ].
On the one hand, this explains a lot of weird stuff that Sunset was doing in our freshman year. And on the other...
What am I supposed to do with this?!
Honestly! Sunset Shimmer is the enemy. I can’t go asking her for help or advice! And if I did, why would I expect anything other than self-serving lies, same as she always serves?
But on the other hand...
She’s an alien, right? An alien disguised as one of us, spying on us humans to get her kind ready to invade? But that don’t make sense. She’s stayed in this same town the entire time she was here—shouldn’t she be traveling around looking for our vulnerable spots? And nothing else ever came out of that statue that acted like Sunset did, or even got along with her. (I’m not counting Snips or Snails—they were around being themselves long before she showed up.)
So...so maybe she’s not an invader, but a refugee, and she picked this town to hide in. And being an alien, she thinks herself superior to us hick Earthlings.
Heh. No wonder she double-hates on me.
So she’s got to be responsible for what’s happened to [ Bloom ], right? But she’s never come by the ranch, not to gloat, not to draw suspicion away from herself by pretending to care, not nothing.
It don’t make sense. This whole business don’t make sense!
Twilight wanted to know if I wanted to expose her as an alien, like she exposed her texting scam—she said she could turn her little detector into a camera to “provide definitive proof”. I said...no. She’s an awful person, but she’s no alien spearhead, and I’m not sure if I have the right to take her disguise away from her. I mean, she’s here by herself, so I got to think that she left behind some people that she really loves, and can’t never see again. And yeah, I can see how that might make you a little mean—take a look at when I started this diary if you want a sample. She just went too far. And now that I’ve beaten her in the way that counts, I shouldn’t go and try to kick her when she’s down. And hey, she surely saw that interview, and she didn’t do anything with it to make me forfeit or win the election. I can’t even find that video on the Internet anymore, like it vanished or something—did she do that?
Now that I’m thinking about it, maybe she blew up that statue to stop the invasion! I better tell Twilight to smash that teleporter of hers, before it’s too late!
what exactly is the point of posting these if you won't say what it's based on? I'd probably check out the original, do a little reading, see if I prefer your version, etc. if you said what it was, but as it is, this is... well, it's a fragment of a story, as you said. It's not really worth the effort to read.

It's "Bloom Filter", by ferret. I didn't want to name the story before I finished, because I feared that I would then have to spend every chapter engaged in a war of words with the original author and/or his fans. Let me state my piece before I bring down the wrath of the heavens, that was my thinking.
And I posted this because...it appears I have a lot of followers, and I feel like I've massively disappointed them by not writing anything in months. Half a story is better than nothing. At least I think so. I mean, I made it very clear upfront what this was, and I put the story's title at the beginning of every post, so if anyone thought it was a dumb idea, they could stay far away.

I'll check that out tonight. Should be an interesting experience, reading two subplots side by side and comparing them.
