Ok... who here has read Stardust By Arad?
I am asking because I happened to stumble upon it and read it, Not only was it an amazing piece of fiction which I recommend anyone to read but I found it EXTREMELY and eerily similar to my own writings. To a point that if you read both my story and his you would find it hard to believe that one was not influenced HEAVILY by the other.
However I only just found out about Stardust the day before yesterday and it was written three years ago, before any of my stories.
It is downright spooky how similar it is. The explanation of magic is almost identical, both are crossovers from very popular video games, both are the same kind of crossover as in not being a meld where everything is a pony version of the item being crossed over but that a pony is dropped into the other non pony world.
As well the key supporting characters were ungodly similar.
as Lana is a lot like Arch mage Taara, though more childish and a whole lot less powerful, as well as possibly more responsible XD
Charels Shen is a lot like Ra'Shala without the more shadowy side and dangerous secrets.
As finally Vahlen shares a LOT in common with the Nord Baldir, especially the similarities of grave mistrust and darker violent tendencies.
The uncanny resemblance goes further than just personality but even has some odd events that are shared for instance spoiler warning on both. Taara and Lana both get into a very serious fight that costs them their arm. Lana's left arm and Taara's right arm are both lost in battle and quickly replaced with a synthetic metal arm powered by magic.
Though the differences are there, Arad's Twilight is far more in the role of victim and bystandard as mine is more into the role companion and part of the team. Then again Arad's Twilight was when first introduced, a simple unicorn while mine started off as a full alicorn princess, the the difference is very understandable and under the circumstances, had I written about a unicorn Twilight or he had written about an alicorn Twilight, I have a feeling the two would be extremely similar as well.
I did quite enjoy Arad's description of Discord seeing him more as a danger than the Nuciance I portray him as. Instead of playful and overly silly to the point where he is a problem Arade portrays a darker and more cunning form of Chaos. One that is focused and only random for his own entertainment instead of as a part of his identity. Arad also portrays an interesting piece of Discord I quite enjoyed, and that is his more dark and demented anger, a wrath that is quite sinister and what I would call demented. As the writing does not go into too much detail he clearly has a darker and more powerful Discord in mind than I. I quite enjoy this.
For the most part if I had to put a label on it I would call Arad's work not identical to my own but a far more detailed and skilled version of my own. It is utterly fascinating to see his work and actually rather flattering to see that someone so skilled has the same problems as I. Certain words are repeated a bit too often, for instance I find myself using the word Simple, or simply far too often as he uses the word Ramrod in terms of how firmly one is standing straight at attention for military purposes. It is plain and simply uncanny.
To a point I shall say. If you enjoy my writing I would definitely recommend Arad's work seeing he is more skilled and far more well backed than I. Someone I now strive to become more alike I would say.
... Well that's something you don't see everyday is it?
