The Nature of Magic
Magic is somewhat related to Quantum Physics and to a lesser extent science in general. Studying magic takes years to master and is never to be taken lightly or played with unsupervised. Now there are many types of magic, but all of them usually requires a will or a mind to work in some way. I say usually because if magical energy is in high enough concentration naturally to begin with, something of unpredictable nature happens. To everyone who never experience magic or those who experience it but don’t understand it, this is a quick introduction to magic. Just to note, I never actually experience magic myself but have given the subject a lot of thought.
Magic is like a field of energy that exists in its own dimensional plane and still be able to interact with the world. Don’t ask me how, for I doubt even the brightest minds could figure that out. Now magic can transform into other forms of energy and, through some scientific theories if Einstein’s equation of 〖E=MC〗^2 are true, matter. Energy from magic such as heat is easy but gets incrementally more challenging the more complex the energy gets and matter from magic is beyond all but the most powerful of beings (such as Alicorns that have been around for thousands of years or God) or maybe a group of powerful beings.
Magical fields of study can blend together and even overlap each other, meaning that there are multiple ways to get the desire result. Like I said earlier, magic exist in a field but I forgot to mention that the nature of these fields are similar to the magnetic fields that you’ll find around stars and planets. I say this now because it’s possible for some creatures to navigate by magic. The living things that do use magic in some way need a special organ or organ system to sense and use magic, but magic can and will affect anything without a problem. With that being said, it is possible that technology could be made to sense, measure, and use magic, but said technology will not be easy to make. Especially if the inventor of such technology cannot sense and use magic to begin with.
This is all that will be part of my story eventually. There will be more to come.
You have a very similar head-canon as I do. I even wrote a story about magic and it even won a competition. You can see it here if you want:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/148EnDcKJ4G3KQdSMfv9emZHsw8Zr-Ih6Ov0TN5aoirk/edit#heading=h.cpsg24jlvlt9
Yeah this is compatible to my headcanon too.
Though I do change headcanons depending on the story.
I do think that matter can be created from energy, but it does require a lot of power, will and some knowledge. It is an advanced topic but not just for Alicorns or Deities. Of course this is my headcanon, you roll how you want.
How does the magic of Divination fit in your system?
How does the field of magic work with looking into the future or past?
I also think its possible to generate an anti magic field too.
Have you seen this?
Sanderson's laws of magic
3703221 In my headcanon, magic suspends laws/rules of science (including thermodynamics). So you can temporarily create matter, but it will take a constant supply of magic to keep suspending the laws of thermodynamics. So eventually, you will need to finalise the object with E = MC^2 amount of mana, or to dispell it.
Sanderson's laws of magic are quite interesting. Though they seem more like guide-lines rather than actual laws. Regardless, they are still good guide-lines: magic should have cost, the limitations of it are more important than it's abilities, etc.

3728778 Sure. I'll PM it to you.
Hello
I've got a story idea in the works that pertains to how magic works, particularly unicorn magic (illumination, levitation, etc.) and how it is performed. I need help figuring out how to explain how it works, so If you'd like to help, please PM me. Thanks
