[SPOILERS] As Opposed To Tail Attraction · 5:20pm Nov 22nd, 2015
I liked this episode. Despite the twenty-minute runtime, it felt a lot shorter than it was, and was enjoyable throughout. Some spoilery stray thoughts after the break, if this works right.
-If Sapphire Shores is Rihanna, would this 'Countess' be Lady Gaga? Nah, probably not.
-I admittedly laughed at the campfire song scene; the dramatic-ness of her voice was just slightly out of place. Still a heartwarming scene, though.
-Equestrian National Anthem!
-I loved the multitude of call-backs in the list of items Pinkie was asked to provide.
-Svengallop (did I spell that right) is a pretty monodimensional antagonist, but somehow that actually works reasonably well here, and is not something I'd count as a serious blow to the episode.
-However, I'm confused as to how Ponyville is still 'podunk' given Twilight's castle. This could be fixed if we go with the 'no chronological order' theory and say that since the castle was never even shown, this could easily take place before the events of Twilight's Kingdom... Wait, did the Crusaders have their marks?
-It'll be interesting to see if anybody writes a fic exploring Rah-Rah's struggles to find a new manager and try to keep audiences with a redefined act and persona. While the point of the ending bit was to show her raw talent and soul outweighing any flashy effects, I imagine there would be some hardcore fans of the 'glitz and glam' act who would be most displeased with this more soulful music.
-I'm also expecting there to be dozens of AJ/Coloratura shipfics by the end of the week. Whether this is a good thing or not, I'm honestly undecided on.
-I still have no clue who Lena Hall is, but dayum can she sing well.
-Goodbye, AKR. We'll miss you.
The verdict? Five out of Five bendy straws named 'Fernando.'
Yeah, she's definitely Lady Gaga.
Also, bullshit on her being a bigger pop star than Sapphire Shores. Sapphire Shoes has been mentioned way more times! >:V
3560713 Yeah
Quite true, I wasn't sure how to feel about that bit. Thankfully it didn't crop up past that.
