Miss Koi Reviews "The Mane Attraction" · 9:01pm Nov 21st, 2015

Ever since the pre-released animatic for this episode, bronies (including myself) have been hyped for this Lena Hall episode. It's fair to say people will remember this episode more as The Lena Hall episode rather than "The Mane Attraction".
Anyway, for those who don't know who Lena Hall is, she's the chick at the Tony Awards who included the three little magical words "Friendship Is Magic" into her acceptance speech.

It was then that Hasbro and all the bronies who watch the Tonys (like myself;)) discovered we had a famous and musical pegasister in our mist. Now, before her acceptance speech at Tonys, I didn't know how she was and the award winning musical that she was in. Heck, I haven't even listened to her sing yet at that point and I'm a big musical fanatic. But to be far, sometimes I don't always stay up to date with the latest for the broadway scene. Anyway, Lena Hall may be new on the scene, but she's a rising star apparently. Born to become the new Idina Menzel and I can definitely see that. Especially after this episode:)
Lena Hall's character was none other than the great pop star sensation that even trumps the amazing Sapphire Shores is...Countess Colourtura (I believe that's how you spell it)

Or as Applejack called her...Ra-Ra!:3 Tehee get it?;)

Although, Ra-Ra's actual real name is so long and so hard to pronounce that you can only remember Ra-Ra (sorry Lena Hall's character:/ This might be a big blow on your character:/)
First off, and I know this will sound shallow but, I love this characters' design and outfits and the variety of looks she had to present. Both her simple look and Countess look caught my attention and made me love watching her sing on stage:D I just love how her character is just a big old reference to the Queen of the Little Monsters herself, Lady Gaga <3

Fun fact about Missy: I really like Lady Gaga. Not only do I listen to her songs and like them, I deeply appreciate Lady Gaga's creativity but most importantly, her personality and spirit. On the outside, she looks like a scary and eccentric pop star that appears to be pampered and such. But on the inside, from what I've seen on tv and other forms of media, she's a beautiful artist who writes her own songs that has a humble and kind yet quiet heart. She can even act and takes all forms of her craft very seriously, and she adores her fans and her loved ones above all else. That's why I appreciate her as a role model to her fans. She can achieve being both super creative and super simplistic. I mean, if you ever saw videos of her just singing and playing on the piano with no fancy costumes and just alone on stage, you can really see what Lady Gaga is all about.
Ra-Ra's character is very much like Lady Gaga's personality. On the outside, she looks like a pampered and kinda cold eccentric super star. I mean, she came in a giant gold diamond similar to Lady Gaga's egg at the awards showXD (This made me crack up so hard)

Along with eccentric yet comedic looking back up dancersXD

But on the inside, Ra-Ra is a kind yet humble pony who loves her fans (especially her younger fans<3) and wants to help other any way she can with charity events and inspiring others with her music. I mean, she even plays the piano and sings while playing just like Lady Gaga!
I was impressed by Lena Hall's vocal range because in her Countess song "Spectacle" she sounded just like Lady Gaga:0 No joke you guys! (By the way, love the "Spectacle" song too:3) And then, Lena can go soft yet triumphant in her last song "Magic Inside" which has to be on the list of most beautiful songs in MLP<3 without a doubt:)
However, I felt like Lena's character didn't get as much screen time as she should have. I felt like we didn't get the chance to really get to know her character. We got a good basic sense, but Ra-Ra needed more scenes before her big finale. Plus, it was hard to judge Lena as a voice actor because she didn't get a lot of lines. I liked the sound of her speaking voice, it was very warm and sincere, but I wanted to see some range as well. I mean, we spent more screen time on that Spin Gallop fellow than her! And she's the freakin guest star! I think this is what slowed down/hurt the story of this episode, there was no focus on Spin Gallop the villain rather than the new hero/friend Ra-Ra.
Even though it was great having Applejack in the spotlight and having her helping an old time friend, but still the spotlight should have also been balanced between AJ and Ra-Ra. However, I did appreciate the new kind of conflict that AJ had to go through this episode. Especially in the beginning part where she had to process her friend as The Countess.
It pains for me to announce this you guys, but for those who don't know, "The Mane Attraction" is Amy Keating Roger's last episode for My Little Pony Friendship is Magic.

She was the writer responsible for some of the best Pinkie Pie episodes in the series like "Pinkie Pride", hilarious yet wonderful episodes like "A Dog and Pony Show", and amazing episodes like "Crusaders of the Lost Mark". She even helps with lyrics for songs, especially in episodes she writes for like "Pinkie Pride" and "Crusaders of the Lost Mark". But do not despair my friends, she's not retiring from writing. Instead, she will now be writing for Disney. It's not confirmed whether it's for television or movies, but either way I'm so happy for Mrs. Rogers. Thank you Amy Keating for being one of my favorite writers on the show and always giving us episodes full of great humor, fun, and a lot of heart. You will be missed, but we will support your amazing works in Disney as well. You will always prosper wherever you go.
I give your episode a strong 8 hearts out of 10 <3
Now a fun question for all of you: Which famous celebrity would you like to guest star on MLP next?
Here's my list:
1. Martin Short (perhaps as Discord's wacky younger brother;))
2. Patrick Stewart (as either Scorpan or Star Swirl the Bearded or both;))
3. Neil Patrick Harris (as any character, just as long as he sings:D)
4. Tim Curry (definitely as a villain, but I would still be okay if he was a good guy too)

Yeah, i already put up my review, plus two bonus things.

But, i didn't like the episode, but i still liked some aspects of it.

I just basically said it had more music than plot.

Well, that's interesting.

Stumbled across this looking stuff up and... I know this is late, but here goes:

Tim Curry is actually not well lately, so that may not be entirely possible.

But which celebrities could/should star?

1. Neil Patrick Harris, singing. My yes. Take it. Take it all. But while you're there.

2. Nathan Fillion. If he doesn't voice an adult, raise the pitch a smidge and make him a colt named Diamond Studded Crown, to be a new antagonist for Diamond Tiara. "You can call me Stud."

3. Peter MacNicol as Star Swirl the Bearded. He did a very convincing apprentice wizard in Dragonslayer, should work in the show's context.

4. George Takei and Danny Trejo. One entry, because they were both awesome in the same cartoon: El Tigre. Make them both instructors at Flight Camp for Scootaloo: one the aloof mentor, the other a harsh coach.

5. Amy Jo Johnson. The Pink Power Ranger. I don't care where they put her, as long as she's exceptionally silly. After Turbo, that shouldn't be too hard a trick.
