I'm not the only one, right? (Calmed down rant) · 4:59pm Oct 18th, 2015
Seriously,I can't be the only one offended by this, can I?
Some info for those who aren't Canadian.
This is official Elections Canada signage. Slightly different from the one I have in my room from the last Federal Election I worked, but it gets the point across.
Notice the resemblance?
Of course you do.
The... lovely fucking people at Postmedia Network decided to run a full page attack ad on the front page of some of their papers, so what?
Well, this I'm "okay" with. We all know unbiased journalism hasn't been a thing for a long time, if it ever existed to begin with.
What actually pisses me off about this is the blatant and insulting move to theme this... article around the neutral agency that is supposed to represent unbiased and fair voting. They've decided to try and make it seem like "Elections Canada" is endorsing a Conservative attack ad.
Make the ad blue, fuck! Make it red or orange for all I care, but to intentionally try and suggest the agency in charge of regulated, neutral, unbiased elections has an opinion on who wins the elections? That's disgusting and whoever had this idea should feel dirty.
I find attack ads to be a disgustingly low method to try and win an election to begin with, but to do something like this? I hope these papers are fined, censored, the people responsible fired or even charged.
The worst part is that no one else thinks this is at all offensive or inappropriate. I can't be the only one to feel this way, can I?
I'm with you. I know most people think it doesn't matter, but like the junk mail that is disguised to look like more important correspondence the end result is one of conscious or unconscious association. For me that leads to disregarding official items by mistake. Others give the fakes more weight than they deserve. Either way, it's deceptive and wrong. Which sadly means it's going to be the kind of go-to strategy in political ads.
What's that little paragraph in the middle say?
Yeah, that's pretty fucked up. I'm right there with you.
It is an incredibly fucked up and unprofessional move by both the Vancouver Sun and the morons in charge. It's one thing for a news outlet to run a smear campaign, but to try and pas it off in a way that makes it look like it's endorsed by an agency that is meant to be neutral is completely fucking disgraceful.
On the plus side, looking at the Vancouver Sun's facebook page, there are quite a few people who are also pissed off about this.
