Warning! Spoilers Approaching!
So the newest episode came out that was CMC centric (though technically more Diamond Tiara) and it turned out rather well though it did feel like a bit of a cop-out in some ways. I know I'm just nitpicking as it really was a great episode but where's the fun in pointing out what everyone is already going to do?
First of all, it was interesting seeing more of DT's background though everything seemed a bit fast which is the problem with the episode lengths. It would have been more interesting if things spanned an episode or two instead of it all being mashed into one.
Second, the cutie marks, while neat, do feel like a cop-out as it gives a reason for them to not stop with all their antics and public mayhem. It feels less like them growing up and just more of a reason for them to keep acting like they always did though in the future I guess I could see them as teachers or counselors of some kind.
On the same vein as the last one, what happened when they got their cutie marks seemed weird and overblown and through it all I only had one thing running through my mind. Cutie Mark Crusader Alicorns, YAY!
Last bit is about families as shown by the episode. For one how are Filthy Rich and Spoiled Rich still together with her attitude being like that? They clash so horribly that it just doesn't seem like it would work. Also hints that the Apple parents truly are dead though there is still the question of where are Scootaloo's relatives? It seems to give even more credence to her being an orphan like many people believe. Also Sweetie's are obviously still on a trip somewhere.
Well that's about all I have to say though it's interesting that the class size looked to be about 30 or so but there were what? Only 5-6 colts shown total?
Yeah, not too keen on the sudden appearance of Spoiled Rich (although I suppose DT had to get it from somewhere, and Filthy's a pretty nice pony. Maybe his wife's just so overbearing he bends to her will at home. Maybe he doens't think he's capable of raising a filly, so he lets her do it. Maybe he spends all his time at work. Dunno.
As for Ma and Pa Apple, I think they're confirmed dead. I don't think they'll ever say it on the show, but between the shooting stars in Apple Family Reunion and this, I wouldn't expect them to show up anytime soon.
Could be that Sweetie's parents are out of town. I've often thought that's why she spends so much time with Rarity.
Not sure about Scootaloo. One toy said that Cheerilee was Scootaloo's big sister, but I don't think there's ever been any other confirmation, and that doesn't explain parents. Two possibilities: they're weather ponies somewhere in Equestria who have jobs which are so important they can't stay with Scootaloo; or, they're both Wonderbolts, and that will be revealed in some Scootaloo/RD episode.
3458850 Pff, want a list of what people have assumed are Scootaloo's relatives beyond the orphan part? There's the two you mentioned, specifically Soarin and Spitfire for the Wonderbolts; Princess Celestia is her mother; she's the daughter of the top Cloudsdale noble; related to Cheerilee/Berry Punch in some way; Flash sentry is her brother; Scootaloo IS Princess Celestia; and that's without going into all the adoption level stuff out there.
...about your question why Filthy and Spoiled are still together, I have a theory.
Spoiled Rich's cutie mark is a gold ring with a diamond stone. That is, a wedding ring. Meaning that her special talent is... marrying into money. She's a social climber, and probably can spout bull**** like nobody's business if she needs to.
That also explains why she caved in REAL fast after Tiara finally stood her ground... she probably heard DT's words as "Mom, I'm pretty sick and tired of your attitude. Either you stop RIGHT NOW or I'm gonna give dad a LONG list of your shenanigans. And guess what? I got witnesses." Meaning, either she dropped her rich bitch act or she'd find herself out of the Rich household so fast that Rainbow Dash would ask for tips.
