    Gen 5 Movie

So, just watched the new movie and I have to say it wasn't bad. Give it about an 8/10 due to it lacking information on key plot points as well as a couple of unanswered questions. Spoilers after the break.

    Season has ended.

So... Gen 4 has come to a close, and it will be missed. Unfortunately, to me, it has ended on a rather sour note as Season 9 is the worst season of them all. Overall I can only give 3 of the episodes and above-average rating, with the finale getting a grudging average. The problem is the entire foundation of it started off terribly with the first episode of the season, which bled into most of

    Of Birthdays and Story Status

Bleh, it has been too long since I've gotten anything out and it's all because of my current project. Back at the start of December I decided to do a little story for Christmas... which has now turned into a two month-long blah fest. As of now, I am hopeful that I will be getting it out by my birthday this coming 14th, but with how things have been going? At the very least I should have at

MLP Movie is out on DVD

So, the MLP movie finally came out on dvd and while it was a good movie in general, it did feel very... incomplete. So I thought I'd just toss out a small review type thing, mostly just a list of the pros and cons of the movie. Don't expect it to be very cohesive though since I've never done this before and I'll be watching the movie at the same time. Will also be no real order as I will just

    Chapter 62 fix

Well this is embarrassing. I messed up and repeated a theme this chapter that I already used. So as of now it's been edited to hopefully work better with what I already had, as well as added another small scene. Let me know if I missed anything else though that I should have changed.

MLP Movie is out on DVD · 5:15am Jan 10th, 2018

So, the MLP movie finally came out on dvd and while it was a good movie in general, it did feel very... incomplete. So I thought I'd just toss out a small review type thing, mostly just a list of the pros and cons of the movie. Don't expect it to be very cohesive though since I've never done this before and I'll be watching the movie at the same time. Will also be no real order as I will just put it down as it comes to mind. So yeah, spoilers ahead.

Pro:
Music in general pretty awesome. So awesome. :pinkiecrazy::trollestia:
Tempest, pure awesome.
Derpy, the true hero of this story.
Nice to see a bit of what's outside of Equestria.
No Starlight Glimmer.
Spike actually uses his fire breath offensively for once. Hairy yetis are probably flammable, just like wooden wolves.
"That's it right? We didn't make friends with anypony else?" Best line of the movie :rainbowlaugh:
Wow, explicit onscreen death of the villain(Sombra didn't count as it hints that he may be back). Unexpected.

Con:
Seaponies heavily advertised, yet a minor part of the movie and not real seaponies.
Mcguffin orb that counters magic and entraps the princesses in stone not explained.
Mcguffin stick out of nowhere and unexplained. Can't be an ancient item as it needs the power of FOUR alicorns and there have only been Two for centuries.
Mcguffin orb is Twilight's solution even though it's powers are unknown except for turning land-based beings into aquatic forms. Especially since Twilight already has transformation magic and could turn her friends into, I don't know, dragons since Spike is there as a genetic template?
Magic reflective armor of the yetis unexplained.
Royal Guard nowhere to be found and once again completely worthless.
Wonderbolts once again do nothing.
Equestria completely oblivious if the Storm King is taking over the world and they know nothing of them.
Thirteen, 5 ponies, 1 dragon, and 7 others, do what hundreds of ponies couldn't and defeat the Storm Kings forces, and there more yetis there at that time too.
Common Sense? What's that?
Storm King basically an anti-brony. Rather poorly thought out.
How were the hippogriffs supposed to help again? Their leader seems just as incompetent as Celestia.
Where are Discord, the Changelings, Starlight Glimmer, Shining Armor, and Flurry Heart? Or any of their other allies?
Why did Celestia try to send Luna to the hippogriffs, if the Queen can't even recognize an alicorn?
Hole and magic circle built for the mcguffin stick inside Canterlot palace.

Nitpick:
Body types between the Mane 6 pretty much cut and paste.
Fluttershy was pretty much a background pony, and Rarity little better as their roles were rather minuscule. Though Rarity's little contribution did affect Capper a lot.
Canterlot invaded, but what happened to the rest of Equestria?
No Scootaloo or Sweetie Belle? Yet Applebloom is in? What, there's a 1-2 second frame with Scootaloo.
All but Twilight overly trusting of others beings, yet Zecora the pony-like Zebra was instantly distrusted and vilified.
Bipedal Gryphons? Different from Gilda's type, how?
Rainbooms at night? Fine, call it magical effect that gives off light I guess.
False advertising of seaponies and given the bait-and-switch of fake ones.
Animation doesn't really match with the background.
If Twilight's magic is drained, how does she still have her cutie mark?
Did Songbird have something in her mouth while singing? Can barely understand half the words of her song.

Others:
Shows just why Twilight being the only princess of her group was a bad idea. She needs the others and without them has way too many problems.
Interesting how a unicorn doesn't require their entire horn to cast spells.
Pointy ponies at the end was a neat touch.

Overall I enjoyed the movie, but there are just so many plot holes in it. It's hard to tell just where in the series it all takes place, though it has to be after Starlight's first appearance. In fact they show her during the pointy ponies segment so it's definitely season 6+ at the least. I really felt that the movie needed at least another 30 minutes just to fill in those holes, and the dvd has no real deleted scenes at all. The one it does have is more of a teaser for the movie than an actual deleted scene.

Overall I'd give the movie an 8-10 for enjoyability, yet a 2/10 for story-writing. It just reads as a mediocre fan-fiction with all the little problems but at least told in a way to still be fun.

Edit: Deleted Scene calls Cadance the Princess of Family. I think I may use that from now on. :pinkiecrazy:

Just wanted to point out that the Pirates are parrots not gryphons. This takes place between season 7 and 8 as season 8 heavily acknowledges that the movie happened but it was written while season 5 was still happening which is why Starlight only got a cameo and Flurry doesn't even get a mention.

Also Starlight's absence is never a positive.

Hmm, didn't really realize that about the pirates, good thing I left it in the nitpick column. Of course now I'd change it to be about the horrible pun that comes with parrot pirates. As for the Starlight part... I just really don't like how she is used. Whenever she is around everyone around her goes all Celestia-level incompetent and somehow she is the only one that can solve everything and without her they are doomed. That's not even going into all the bad tropes around her character in general.
