I'm considering setting up a Patreon. · 1:09am Aug 16th, 2015
For those of you who don't know what a Patreon is, it's basically the artsy-fartsy version of Kickstarter. You financially back creators/artists on the site, and in exchange you get unique supporter kickbacks based on the level of money you pledge. The more you pledge, the more you get back from me, the writer.
I wouldn't be doing this if I didn't feel it were 100 percent necessary, and to be honest I could have started this a long time ago. Believe me, for a 27 year old guy who's been homeless on and off for almost three years thanks to unsupportive family and just an absolute shit lot in life, I've held off on asking people for help for a surprising amount of time. I don't like having to ask for help; I much prefer to make it on my own, no matter how barely I'm scraping by.
Times change though, and I've learned a lot since I got into this situation. I'm still hardheaded as fuck, but even with that I've come to realize that asking for help isn't such a bad thing after all.
Setting up a Patreon account won't matter at all, though, if the support from my fans isn't there. (And I understand that a lot of you all were probably frustrated at me for being so inconsistent with my writing, especially on Nightmare's Return, which in all honesty should not have taken two years to finish, even with my homeless/broke situation, so I can completely understand any hesitancy that might exist.) That's why I'm making this journal entry. Simply to ask you all one question.
If I were to make a Patreon account, would any of you feel up to the task of pledging to back me? As stated above, there would be donator-specific prizes, which could range from anything to a short story written specifically for you (doesn't have to be MLP-related either) to your OC making a cameo in a one-shot or in a future chapter of Six (which for those who missed it, is the sequel to Nightmare's Return that I posted a few days ago, which I'll tag as the featured story for this entry).
I'm not foolish enough to think that all of you are made out of money. Indeed, I know that probably a lot of you are in one way or another in the same boat that I am. I'm still going to put this out there though, to see if something like this would be a viable option. If not, then I'll go on my way, keep posting my chapters and being the lovable annoying CG that you all have come to expect me to be, and you won't hear another word out of me on the matter.
