The Origins of Nightmare Moon.
Not a malevolent or sinister being, nor a shadow of Luna, but an _Existence_ with no Self, and barely a consciousness, wondering what life would be like; What is it like to live? To feel? What is happiness, what is sadness, etc. Seeking out Luna to experience life, but becomes twisted by her feelings of sorrow and betrayal, and magnifies them by accident and becomes The Nightmare.
An idea I've had for a long while. Never could devote time to it. Maybe you can take some bits and pieces from it to make your own little thing?
