"Party Pooped" reaction · 10:16pm Jun 27th, 2015
Wow. Um... wow
First time I've had this type of reaction since "Over a Barrel" ^^
This episode seemed off in some way... it's strange. I can't put my finger on it. It was good and made me laugh, and while I didn't care for it entirely, there were a few notable moments... particularly the moral, some of the humor with Pinkie, and the way the yak's eyes were used when he got angry. It's a good moral for a kid's show, and makes sense to have an almost diplomatic lesson -- don't try to befriend your guests by imitating them, but open up your world to them and welcoming them in by showing them something from the heart about you to get them excited about getting to know you. It encourages sharing and for children to be themselves (and not posers) with people they want to be friends with. That's pretty awesome.
I don't care for the particular way the writers expressed the yaks personalities (it's a trope I can't recall the name of that's been done to death and feels so silly) but the direction this episode took more than makes up for it.
Peace
what do you think of pinkie's characterization so far this season?

That's a good question ^^
I like Pinkie's characterization in the opener. Seems a bit downplayed and doesn't have too many over the top moments (with a few jokes that might've been aimed at the older crowd). All of the main characters are pretty much reestablished in the opener, for newer audiences, so no characters really go too far with their antics. I feel it focuses on that as much as the town
Pinkie's a bit of a wildcard at times, so if the characterization ever feels off I try to remind myself that. In some episodes her antics are downplayed and I get the feeling there's a character who wants to see the good in others and feels someone with an attitude problem just needs cheering up. It's a positive message for children. The over-the-top nature of her character is sometimes be used for comic purposes, and sometimes it works... but sometimes it doesn't
For me the biggest letdown with how Pinkie's sometimes used can be observed in her brief part in "Make New Friends and Keep Discord" (one of my favs. so far). For one part she's a bit loud and oblivious. I think back to some episodes I enjoyed where Pinkie's the focus and I remember, while she might've had a line like "Good one, Maud!" while her sister was heckling Discord... she also might have giggled and acted like it was all in good fun (not taking anything too seriously). I get the feeling that's what Pinkie's about sometimes -- it's not that she's unaware she's potentially hurting others feelings, she's oblivious to any problem at all and just lost in the moment. Having the actress shout her lines in an enthusiastic voice isn't enough to make the character or bit any funnier. These moments seem fewer lately, though
As for this episode... she has her moments and much of it isn't over-the-top. She's under pressure and reacts realistically nervous ^^

That's cool so i am not the only one who was noticing this change. shes weird and eccentric so i am glad this season went back to that with her being weird and eccentric i am a fan of the cukoocloudlander trope which what pinkie is. i think they can be weird without being annoying ya know? just think last year i almost stopped watching the show because i hated how pinkie was written. i am glad the show is finally toning her down. I seriously thought i was the only fan noticing this change.
