On "Slice of Life"

Oh, fuck the hell yes.

Background pony episode. And oh my god did it DELIVER. Derpy front and center with a fitting voice (please angry parents DON'T FUCK HER UP FOR US AGAIN), Bon Bon and Lyra confirmed as besties with wiggle room for more, Octavia actually being in Ponyville AND living with Vinyl, THE DUDE'S BACK, MAGNET'S BACK, Whooves Doctor-ing everywhere, introspective Gummy, princess sisterly quarrels, that one changeling... it's like Headcanon Central right off of Fangasm Boulevard. It's like the stars just fucking aligned.

And I know that there are going to be people griping about Special Agent Sweetie Drops. And about them making the most iconic background stallion play as close to the image given to him by the fandom as copyright will allow. Personally, though... I don't mind the way they presented these points. They gave pretty creative backstories to Bonnie and the Doc, ones I don't think I'd ever have imagined for them (though I think there was one popular fic that made Bon Bon AND Lyra secret agents), and it made them so much more interesting as a result.

Also, the divided house Octy and Vinyl live in was a nice touch. Their whole scene was just... MMM.

This is, hands down, my favorite episode of the season so far, and one of my favorites of the show's entire run. I'm already rewatching it, which is something I haven't even done with any episodes since the start of season 4, and that was because I was playing catch-up and marathonning everything. I was smiling the whole way through this, I ADORED what they did with the background cast, and I hope this isn't the only time we see them in this capacity.
