    A Diamond Birthday to Celebrate

Diamonds, they are often found 'In the Rough'.
They come in many shapes and sizes.
But the most sought after feature is the brilliant fire that shines inside the clarity the finished gem.

Hey, I got a Review by Cerulean Voice! · 6:35pm Jun 13th, 2015

It was on one of my early works, The Phoenix Foal.

And I got a 5.5/10 :rainbowhuh:

Check it Out

Okay, I'll admit to initially being not too thrilled by that (nasty flashbacks to a obsession with academic perfectionism as a child). But what the hay, I have my sanity more in hand now than in my past. As it turns out the breakdown Cerulean Voice provided on request makes a lot more sense.

Story Factors (theme and such): 4/5
It's got emotion, action, and a sound and engaging story to it. :rainbowdetermined2::pinkiehappy:

Grammar and Technical aspects: 1.5/5 :facehoof:
Used a real life friend as an an editor who has grammar worse than mine. (:derpytongue2:check) Personal psychological disposition towards over qualification due to trauma induced inferiority complex leading to positive plethora purple prose, LUS (Lavender Unicorn Syndrome) and run on sentences being well represented. (Eeyup ) Dozen or so Spelling and caPitaliZation emphasis err's. (:facehoof: check). Hit reviewer in face with a couple of 野驢 (Ye lu - wild ass) allusions reviewer didn't understand, while slipping others by unnoticed (:rainbowlaugh: check).

Actually, believe it or not, I think this is the first time in the 2 plus years on the site that I've encountered the term 'Lavender Unicorn Syndrome' - the habit of using character descriptions in place of actual names, or otherwise continually attaching visual cues or qualifiers in relation to the characters. :applejackunsure::pinkiecrazy:

Guess I'll have to try to avoid that in future, as looking over my body of work I've got LUS in plus. I guess for me I see too many connections in the coloration. In my subconscious anthropological analysis I saw the rainbow pallet of ponies actually using coloration as a part of a subconscious cultural element that was used to identify or differentiate each other, similar to how zebras, and some other critters can distinguish each other by individual pattern. But for readers, yeah, it probably needs to be tied to the hitching post or at the very least reigned up on and kept on a shorter lead.

Again, thanks to Cerulean Voice for the review, and the feedback.

Coming soon: Chapter 5 of The Blood of Apples

PS. I'm going to be taking up majority operational control at work, but will try to keep Sunday's open to write. :rainbowdetermined2:
