Ah ha! So we're supposed to blog too! · 2:59pm Jun 10th, 2015
Originally when I joined this site, it was just to throw up a short one-shot that I needed to write, about Celestia's first time raising the moon alone - The First Night. It was barely 1000 words, just enough to meet the requirements to post. It didn't get much attention, but the ponies who read it seemed to like it (except for the one thumbs down, which I got immediately upon posting.)
After a while, I felt like I needed to write again, this time to sort out an idea that had arisen from a pair of crossover pictures I commissioned years ago - one of Scar and Nightmare Moon, the other of Scar and Twilight. To Choose the Light came from that, and despite a lot of scenes being somewhat glazed over ("telling instead of showing", to use the advanced writing terms), it still ended up being the longest piece I'd ever written. It also got its first thumbs down within minutes, but did all right after that. The extra thumbs downs came on a later chapter, maybe fairly so. I've considered going back and writing out the glazed over scenes, but as a quick sketch, I'm not sure the story deserves it.
Now, working on Night Reigns - the story of Nightmare Moon's rule over Equestria. The concept started simply enough, and originally I wanted it to be a roleplay world. But for that, I needed a backstory, and since I wanted Sunset Shimmer in there instead of the Mane Six, I had to write up why they weren't in there. That gave the prologue and chapter 0. I decided to keep going and see where it went... I have been keeping in mind the comments and tips gained from the last two stories, and occasionally I admit to myself they are helping after all. (I've also shamelessly stolen two of my dear friends and injected them into the story, but names have been changed to protect the innocent ;) ). All the same, while I plan ahead a bit, I'm enjoying letting this story tell itself, without the constraints of "this has to happen somewhere". I'll try to keep it from wandering, though. It's certainly looking like it will be my largest work again, and for that, it might as well be worth it!
Damn ponies, they drive me to create. ;)
