Boast Busters blog + Hiatus · 6:52pm May 25th, 2015
As promised here is a blog detailing all the changes my "Boast Busters" story has gone through. My original concept started out before i even started writing last year, at first it was going to be very close to the original episode. Applejack, Rainbow Dash and Rarity would still have their altercation with Trixie, but Twilight would get on stage and accept her duel. (This was before i had the concept of an alternate mane 6 yet) Again things would go pretty much the same, but Trixie and Twilight would end up defeating the Ursa minor together and Snips (or Snails) would get arrested for bringing a monster to town. When i started writing the "Friendship is Magic" story ark, i shelved "Boast Busters".
Around the time i was halfway through "Griffon the Brush off" i started working on the concept once more, i realized i hadn't introduced Dinky to the story yet and decided that she needed to have a major role, She was going to be working with Snips and Snails and would be the one to egg them on into bringing the Ursa to Ponyville. But i realized that wouldn't reflect well on the character i was trying to build so i scrapped that.
It was only halfway through writing the first chapter that the idea of Trixie having a stage and off stage persona came to be. But i feel it was a good choice, theirs already so many good stories about Trixie's rivalry with Twilight, i wanted to try something different. She's not particularly strong magic-wise, but she uses what she has in creative ways.
Anyway i had the ending mostly worked out, Dinky would ultimately be the one to save the day. The only problem was finding just the right way to get there, thus you all got what was supposed to be one chapter turn into a three chapter finale. That's about all the ins and outs of what went on hope you enjoyed seeing a bit of my creative process.
And now for the hiatus announcement, I'll be at Everfree Northwest and i'm not doing any writing till i get back, mostly so i can recharge. But does that mean nothings gonna happen till then? No. I'm going to look for an artist to commission a nice looking piece of art for the story, Also i'm going to talk with some other authors there and get some tips on how i can improve my writing. Last of all i already have the story concept for "Dragon Shy" done, hopefully you'll all like it when it comes out.
