Someone beat me to writing a Derpy x Troubleshoes fic. And it's good.
Lapis-Lazuli and Inky J nail the potential cuteness of a first date between these two. There's great banter about their eventful pasts, and the way the story's perspective cuts back and forth between them helps to build a plausible attraction without being too distracting. (Though I will ding the story for a few of the more excessive country-bumpkin-speak moments inside Troubleshoes' head.)
That said, I felt there was a huge missed opportunity to show the chaos and destruction that these two might bring in their wake. It's hinted at and alluded to, but they really only talk about it. One could say their date went much too well, almost to the point where the attraction presented here could have worked between any two other characters who share similar pasts.
In summary, though, I'd recommend the story to anyone looking for a bit of light rom-com about best ship. 
(Of course I'm also still planning my own take on this, and rest assured, there will be chaos.)
