These are best ponies in various categories. As with all best pony lists, these are entirely based on my own opinion. (For the stallion/colt categories I haven't bothered differentiating between the mane cast and background characters — the male ponies all have such minor roles, that it doesn't seem worth it.)

3080634 It's an incredibly long story, so has a lot of character development. Most of the time, OCs are fairly two-dimensional or gimmicky. (Echo and Fluffle Puff certainly are, but they're so cute, so they get on the list!)

Though I don't by any means dislike Scootaloo, she's not very high up on my list either. Same with Applejack; she's a perfectly good character (and the protagonist of my next story) — I just don't like her as much as the other mane 6 characters.

3080734 Again, I don't dislike her, but I was doing top 5. With Sunset as my second favourite pony, two of the Mane 6 were bound to be excluded. Applejack was one. The other would have been Fluttershy or Rarity, but I couldn't decide, so they ended up in equal fifth place.
But yes, I do like her, just not as much as the ones who beat her. My next story will feature Applejack in the lead role. And it's cute.
