After a "brief" struggle about which I will neither release details nor name names for the sake of privacy and respect you thought I'd reveal something here, didn't you?, I have submitted and had published my latest..."story". I'm sorry if it feels like you're being cheated by having a "new" story immediately be on hiatus, but I just wanted these ideas I came up with a week ago to get out there as soon as possible, because otherwise they might never get out. What do I mean? I thought I'd use this as an opportunity to let you, current and future readers, in on my writing process. If it feels unstructured, it's not you; I am literally throwing words at the page to see what sticks. And it's 2am.
What you see in "L-B-X ~Lyra-Bon Bon Extreme~", its name based on the Kamen Rider W theme song "W-B-X", is a string of several action scenes. This is about how a story first comes to me, as a string of unrelated ideas following a central theme. I mull these over in my mind a bit, maybe refine a few details to be consistent, then I go about imagining what kind of a story I think these scenes could tell, and what other scenes could also fit. As it's me, I always make it an action/adventure story. I take the "pieces" and start trying to fit them into a "puzzle" without the picture on the box, any edge pieces, and extra pieces that aren't supposed to fit anywhere. Very often I have ideas for events, but no clear order to put them in. Other times I know I need something of some description in a particular place, but I can't think of what. Getting stuck like this is something I avoid by having so many other stories to divert my attention to.
Like most people, I like doing stuff "my way". This site's writing guide tells you not to do things just "becuzz its cooool", but I say that that's the perfect reason...to chose to include something. Step 2 is using it in a way that justifies its inclusion; this is the part to really have fun with. As a fanfiction writer, I like taking and reimagining lore elements, combining unrelated things into a new idea. For those of you who know G1 stuff, I've got an idea that links together crystal ponies, Tambelon, the Purple Mountain, zero point modules, Cloud Castle, the Rainbow of Light, the Rainbow Bridge, the Golden Horseshoes, and the twinkle-eyed ponies all into a single flowing sequence of events of direct causation and there goes the finale's big reveal; oh well, you still don't know how they go together.
Back to the point, I say that I'll get back to "L-B-X" if I come up with an idea for a centralized storyline, but the truth is that this would be a much later undertaking, as I'm already bogged down with so many more-developed stories. I keep saying this everywhere I go, be it FimFiction or YouTube, and I'd like to finally prove that this is indeed the case, so I'll reveal a few brief descriptions and backgrounds of some stories I'm currently working on and will hopefully get chapter 1 of up sometime this year.
Story 1: "A Different Kind of Pegasus Device - Episode 1: The Device Reawakens". For those of you expecting the Rainbow Factory, I direct you to the words "a different kind of". This story is about another device with the attribute of "pegasus", specifically the Stargate model unique to the Pegasus Galaxy. The title is just a reference I couldn't help but make. And, if you take select lines from SlyphStorm's song "Pegasus Device", you'll find that they do uncanilly represent the situation of the Wraith in the Pegasus Galaxy, what with the Ancients' "mighty machines" (Stargates) for their "long-dead dreams" (fill Pegasus with human life), and the "little demon(s)" now "awake" (Wraith), and especially that "the citizens sleep, never quite knowing when, that device will reawaken, hungry again". That was my original inspiration for the idea, right after the song was released. The story itself is a season-long adventure about the ponies of Equestria (the Mane 6 and nearly every named Ponyville background get spotlighted at some point) traveling to Atlantis (built by the Crystal Ponies, this universe's Ancient stand-in, who this time are still very much around, and actually helpful) and using the Stargate network to explore the Pegasus Galaxy (which they're already in, go figure), which contains worlds based off of AU versions of every major realm from every past Generation, G1 through G3, their lores and histories modified to fit into a galaxy with the background Wraith threat and previous "activities" of the Crystal Ponies before they retreated to Gaia (there are a number of Stargate race parallels to spot). There will be 26 "episodes", each a separate story, roughly divided into either 2 seasons or 2 halves of one season, and one "movie"...or something, it's still too far away to tell, but it's a 27th installment (I just had too many leftover ideas).
Story 2: "My Roommate is a Monster...Tamer - (Level/Volume) 1: Red". Anyone here heard of "Monster Allergy"? An Italian comic-turned-cartoon that was dubbed into English? No? It's about a boy named Zick who is a Monster Tamer, someone with the powers to see and help regulate the world of invisible Monsters living right alongside our own. Replace our world with Equestria, Zick with Vinyl Scratch, and add Equestria's mythological wildlife to the list as visible Monsters, and you've got my story. With the cat that Rainbow Dash refused in "May the Best Pet Win" as a mentor, and the blue Gorka named Omnitrix as a recurring enemy with grand plans, Vinyl learns how to be a Tamer, catching Monsters and gaining new Dom powers. And it gives yet another explanation as to why Vinyl's eyes are only sometimes red. There will be 4 "volumes", each as a different story, to represent Vinyl's journey through the 4 levels of being a Tamer: red, yellow, green, and blue.
Story 3: "Wild Fire Saga - 1 - A Mare's Best Friend". Most of my first ideas for pony fanfic were Doctor Whooves in nature. These are now some of my least expansive ideas. This story follows the ponyverse's 11th Doctor, Bon Bon, and, of course, Wild Fire in the first of 7 stories, this time around featuring the answer to the pair of riddles derived from the title (I'm not spelling out everything for you). The rest of the series involves time travel, out-of-order events for a recurring character, sinning suns, nightmarish Rings, the G&PI, and a particular kind of Rift.
Story 4: "The Keys of Mareinus". Originally a simple Mane 6-starring ponification of Classic Doctor Who's "The Keys of Marinus", no 'e', I have since replaced most signs of Terry Nation's ideas with similar elements from G1's lore, most of which are ones that didn't make it into "A Different Kind of Pegasus Device". Despite that, if you know the original story, you'll know...most of this one, but I still made a few key changes to keep you guessing.
Story 5: "The Discordant Toymaker". Another Classic Who ponification, "The Celestial Toymaker" just clicked for me, but I have also since made alterations to the old tale, with more exciting games, a richer backstory, and one complete departure. It also has a sequel, but that's hush-hush for now.
Story 6: "Annabel Chronistic - The Princess of Time". Admit it, we all have at least one alicorn OC story in us, and this is mine. After making this character in my mind, she sat around for over a year before a story materialized around her, and of course, it came in the form of a blue box. Long thought only a legend, miss 'Anna Chronistic' was locked inside a single instant so her (unstable) total control over time could be contained. Now the Daleks want it to win the Time War. This story features the ponyverse's 8th Doctor before what will be a parallel to his "The Night of the Doctor" exit, but proximity to Annabel's powers will cause him to run forward and backward up and down his personal timeline, giving paradox-free cameos to all of his incarnations.
Story 7: "Kamen Rider Gr3en". Okay, I'm cheating. I plan on releasing this story on the first of April next year, and not a day sooner, because given its subject, that's the time I feel would be the most appropriate. I will not reveal details of it earlier. If you want to know, then ask, and ye shall get cryptic (yet technically true) responses.
