Pen Stroke's The Road Home and my views on continuity. · 12:19am Mar 28th, 2015
Relax everyone this isn't a negative blog, trust me. I just read the first two chapters of Pen Strokes newest story, The Road Home and I think it's a very good story so far, Pen Stroke is an amazing talented writer and one of my major, if not my only major inspiration for being an author on this site and his character Nyx influenced me to write my first three stories, The life of Writing Glory (Nyx is in the first chapter only but was quickly reconnected) and Tears in the Snow (which features Nyx and Snowdrop), and Conflict which is a non-canon prequel to Pen Stroke's Winter Bells.
Now the setting of Pen Strokes The Road Home has me very... conflicted on the setting of Tears in the Snow, which is set five years after Twilight arrived in Ponyville, whereas Pen's universe is set three years. But that's the whole point of alternate universes, we have to go with the ones we have created. I have a fetish for continuity, I love continuity, my stories rely on that so people get jokes and so I can tie the story in with certain other stories or episodes or events. I feel wrong to try and connect my stories with Pen Strokes but the Nyx stories I've made have to connect with the first four Nyx stories created by Pen (not counting the cameo in Creeping Darkness) to have any kind of connection. All of my stories are set before (Conflict) and after (Tears in the Snow, onward) Winter Bells. It's not my place to do that, force mine into his and I don't plan on it, the universes are totally different but they share the characters and past events.
It doesn't matter really anyway, the universe Nyx is in when I write the stories with her have kind of already bounced farther away from the original than a stray dog from its home, I've already set in motion the Soul Carrier storyline as well as the Nightmare Moon story line which will intersect with the stories I have. I have yet to set in motion the third and fourth storyline. The Road Home is an awesome fanfiction so far and explores a lot of character with Discord as well as other things of interest. No habla spoiler, no spoiler for you, ya'll gotta read it ya'selves if you haven't yet. This blog will bite me cause I know I sound like a whiny brat here who has no ideas what they re talking about.
I have a new Fluffle Puff chapter coming soon so be ready. I'm sorry about this blog it was more to help me come to terms with the Nyx stories I write and how they need to take on an arc of their own I guess.
I know how I sound and I know it's stupid. I'll remove the blog if issues spring up about it simple really.
