I thought Discord wasn't in EG at all. Apparently the producers/writers said his character design wouldn't translate well in human form. I don't really feel like watching EG anyway- I'm not really into the concept.
I actually don't picture Discord as old. Ancient, yes. But not old. He's got a white fluffy beard and eyebrows but that could just be the colour of his fur. He doesn't have to make sense.

Oh no, he isn't in Equestria Girls movies there was a Equestria Girls book that came out apparently and it mentioned that Discord is Canterlot's janitor. He'll probably not appear in the movies because like you said his design wouldn't translate to human form.

So that's where this janitor thing came from! I wondered about that. It's... such an incredibly weird choice. Janitors are low men on the totem pole, with little social status, and relatively little power, and their job is to keep things clean and in proper working order. How does any of that sound like Discord? I'd expect Discord to be a criminal or a weirdo professor or something.

Do you have a source to that novel or title? I think this was just a fanfiction because google doesn't find anything except fanfictions about it. And there were no official novels about Equestria Girls except IDW comics...
The only writers outside of comics and tv show are Amy Keating Rogers with her Journal of 2 Sisters and GM Berrow with her books. I haven't heard about any other official writer.

If Discord was translated into human form I suspect he would be the type of guy who isn't ugly, but certainly isn't an adonis. Not average looking- but unusual enough to warrant attraction, if that makes sense (which Discord doesn't).

I can't remember the title but it was definitely written by Amy Keating Rogers or G.M. Berrows. Sorry, I haven't read the books but read about it on Equestria Daily and heard from the word of others.
2904637 There's three of them. Through the Mirror, Rainbow Rocks and The Mane Event. My daughter has them all. I haven't read them myself so I can neither confirm nor deny whether Discord is mentioned as a janitor. Though I kind of suspect that if he is, it's because he's got a felony on his record and can't get any other job he's qualified for. Also that he's terrible at it but the Principals keep him around to keep an eye on him because they have a past with him of some kind.

Well then, is obviously wasn't meant to be taken seriously if the people responsible for actual Equestria Girls are still not sure of his depiction. i doubt there was much thought taken into his character when writing those early novels. As much a legit canonisation as his depiction in a form of a plushie in Equestira Girls short.
