It's all in the attitude · 5:11am Feb 3rd, 2015
So, the Queen of the Next Gen herself is holding a CONTEST. Aside from the usual fun things like this bring up, I noticed a few comments that really made me smile.
Quite a few people expressed depression that I was competing, something to the effect of not being able to match me. Well, in addition to that being a load of crap (I'm not THAT good. I still persist that Bico is a better writer than I) I found myself very pleasantly surprised with the reaction to that 'revelation'.
Something to the tune of: "I'm gonna lose, BUT WHAT THE HELL!" That, ladies and gentlemen, is the right attitude for a writer. Too many people write for the goal. To get featured, to get followers, to get on EqD or whatever else. It's nice to see some people get it. Writing and improving IS the goal. Everything else is unimportant. Nice, sure, but in the grand scheme of things you have to be satisfied with your work, no matter how good it does. Why do you think there are so many writers who dislike their most popular story? Because popularity doesn't REALLY matter to a good writer. It's nice getting your story out there, but it's more important that when you go back to read the story a year later, you still like what you see.
It really brightened my day that so many novice writers got this point. It's not about the winning, it's about playing the game. Good luck to all of you that are competing. And remember, my open offer for advice and critique for this contest is still holding.
See you soon!

Eh, while winning would be fun I just like a good competition. Plus you never know, maybe there'll be a surprise.
"Something to the tune of: "I'm gonna lose, BUT WHAT THE HELL!" That, ladies and gentlemen, is the right attitude for a writer."
thats not only the attitude of a writer, but also the one that could be the more useful for more people
Now that's true, it's better to go in with assurance and confidence in yourself than putting yourself down.
Does the offer for advice/critique still stand?

I'm unsure of how to go about this. Would a PM with a link to a google doc suffice?
2887981 Sure, no problem. Send it over.
