You can't get to the light without walking through the dark first. There are twists and turns and sometimes it feels as if the light has disapeared, but it is there. You just have to look.

I went ahead and submitted the side story to book 1. I was going to do it Wednesday, but some things have come up. My family and I are taking our 14 year old poodle to be put down on Wednesday. She has had failing health since spring last year and now she's gotten so bad that it would be cruel to make her go on like this. Her heart is still strong but her body is through. It's going to be hard letting her go, but it's for the best. She has already lived 5 months past the time that her vet said she would. She is a walking miracle.
Many years ago when my grandmother was struggling with the idea of euthanizing her doberman who was going through horrible health issues, a friend told her that when we take in a pet, whether it be a dog, cat, horse, or any other animal, we become that animal's god. It's our job to take care of our pet, to love it, to cherish it. It's also our job to know when to let go when that pet gets to the point that it can't get better. Their heart and mind may be strong, but their bodies are ready for sleep. This January has already been so tough. Just last week we lost our 11 year old cat and my great-grandmother's 20 year old poodle.

Fuji has been a part of my life for 12 of my 17 years. We got her when she was 2 years old and she was my shadow for many years before she attached herself to my little brother. He is having a really hard time, as she is his first dog. He loves that mutt more than life.

I may not be on much these next few days. Loosing Fuji is like loosing a sister. She may just be a dog, but she's our dog. She's family.
Love you forever and a day, Fuji Lou.
