The song so far - A recap of the timeline of the unbroken · 7:56am Jan 10th, 2015
Since Black Dawn is finally finished and the next story is on the horizon, I thought it could be a good idea to recall what has happened so far in the story, retelling the events that has lead to where we are now, without revealing the things that still haven't been mentioned. It will start where the known timeline begins, with Dust to Dust. Which sucks by the way, hopefully I'll get to rewrite it one day.
Anyway, spoilers after the break, I guess.
In the timeline, seasons one and two happened, but only the first two episodes of the third season.
Following is a rough draft from the timeline, detailing the crucial points so far, with some things removed since you guys don't know about them yet...
Some music for the mood;
Year 1001 – Beginning of Dust to dust. Dust arrives in Equestria. Meets Rarity.
Year 1002 – Dust meets Luna for the first time. Dust & Rarity fall in love and move in together.
Year 1003 – Rarity cheats on Dust. Dust kills a guards pony in anger. Finds the Jormundgand, kills Rarity. Moves in on Luna, both of them realizing they’ve wanted each other since first time they met. Meets Aurora, learns the truth of the Jormundgand and the world.
Dust murders Twilight Sparkle &No-Hope in cold blood. Nopony else ever finds out he did it. They overthrow Luna’s reigning sister Celestia. Celestia passes away due to her unknown decease that also took Cadence.
Thus begins the Lunar Republic.
Year 1004 – Luna & Dust marry.
Year 1005 – Three Gems Orphanage founded.
Year 1007 – Luna & Dust have a son; Stardust.
Year 1017 – (Moonshimmer Island)
Year 1019 – Rainbow Dash & Big MacIntosh produce a son, Willow Sprint. Dash, ashamed that her only son will never be able to fly due to his deformed wings, denounces any and all responsibility of him. Mac takes Willow away, hurt by Dash’s stubborn pride.
Year 1020 – Lilith Eclipse born in Appleloosa
(Year 1021 – Patricidium)
(Year 1022 – When Angels Call)
Year 1023 – Equestria attacked by Gryphons, believing the nation to be weakened by the death of Celestia.
Year 1025 – Stardust dies in the war.
Year 1027 – Equestria wins the war.
Year 1028 – Luna takes her own life. Dust follows her.
End of Dust to dust.
Year 1028 – Unicorns blamed for the death of Luna & Dust. Tension rises.
Year 1029 – The Great Fade begins. Unicorns massacred. Canterlot falls. Applebloom sent to the safety of the south. Applebloom & Lilly meet, instantly growing attached to each other. The snow comes.
Year 1030 – Canterlot Castle is taken, the royal family killed. Lilly’s parents killed in the Fade. Applebloom “adopts” young Lilly as her daughter.
(Year 1031-32 – Heartmender)
Year 1033 – Sweet Apple acres burned to the ground. Applejack & Rainbow Dash die defending it.
Year 1034 – Applebloom sets out to return home, earning her cutie mark the moment she sets her mind on this task. Lilly tries to stop her; Applebloom is killed in a Bleaker ambush.
Year 1039 – Beginning of Black Dawn.
Strange human appears out of nowhere, leaving death wherever he goes. Earns the name Thanatos for his deeds. Kills a group of Stalkers, and the rest(Crescent, Sawblade, Phantom, Bucket) try to track him down, dragging Lilly and her close friend Duskshine, as well as Willow, with them. Ambushed by Bleakers, separated at a frozen river.
The group is taken to Manehattan, while Bucket was somehow forgotten and ends up further down the river. Rescued by a strange mare who takes him into her home. She gifts him with gear and supplies that used to belong to her late son, who also was a Stalker. Bucket tells her of his feelings for Crescent, and promises to save him and the others. Sets out for Manehattan, and the house and mare suddenly disappears, leaving nothing but ruins in its wake.
In their attempts to escape the Bleakers, Duskshine is killed and revealed to be a Changeling in the process. Phantom disappears after causing a generator to explode. The group is once again separated, with Lilly all alone after her friend's death. Crescent and Willow tries to find the others. Anton, younger brother of Mattias, arrives in Equestria after seeing what looked like his missing brother. He encounters Willow, who instantly grows attached to him, unlike Crescent who believes him to be the one they call Thanatos.
Anton is pulled from the others when he thinks he sees his brother yet again, and pursuits him. Witnesses as the man grows wings and takes off into the sky. Finds Lilly being attacked by a Bleaker, and manages to save her but is badly injured in the process.
Crescent and Willow take shelter in an old school, and Sawblade rejoins them during the night. Willow overhears them talking, and takes Crescent's words, that he wouldn't make it on his own, very harshly. Decides that they need to reach Ponyville, now known as The Heart, to bring them news of this Thanatos and Anton before it's too late.
During the same night, Lilly forces herself to find supplies in order to save the life of Anton. Ends up in a nest of Devils, fights her way out and finds the things she needs.
The next day, the Stalkers find a place where a Magisurge once took place, and find Crescent's sister Lyra frozen in the magic ice it created. Crescent is heartbroken, and neither he nor Sawblade notices Willow sneaking off.
Later, Anton wakes up in From Dust Memorial Hospital, and learns that Willow had met Lilly earlier, and they had carried him to safety. Meets Holly, a slightly eccentric caffeine addict, and Topaz, leader of the hospital. Anton and Lilly learn that they both shared a dream that was eerily similar, containing strange visions of a spire of crystal. After some research, Lilly finds books that point towards the Crystal Empire, and the two ponder if it would be worth going there.
Lilly throws a tantrum and doesn't speak with Anton for a few days. Anton and Holly quickly become friends, and Willow expresses his wish to stay in the hospital.
Crescent and Sawblade press on through the ruins of Manehattan, Crescent now being nearly catatonic and Sawblade increasingly worried about his friend's mental health. They take a look through a church, and Sawblade comes across a couple of dead bodies, one of them carrying an old stick of dynamite. After going through an event that terrifies Sawblade to his core, he falls asleep, feeling that something else is doing it to him.
When he wakes up it's almost night, and Crescent is acting strange. He runs into the night, forcing Sawblade to follow him. Eventually the reach a train station and head out on a bridge that would take them to the mainland. Sawblade finally has enough, and tries to provoke Crescent into talking. During their fight, he spots a group of Bleakers following them.
They hurry to get off the bridge, and Sawblade uses the dynamite he found in the church to blow up part of the bridge. Dazed by the explosion, he stumbles unto the mainland, but realizes that the Bleakers are still coming. The last we see of them is when the Bleakers reach them, and Sawblade gets mentally ready for the end.
At night, Lilly comes to Anton's room to apologize for her behaviour, and confesses that she's just afraid. (Considering the things she's seen and been through, I'd say she has every right to be terrified and confused.)
Decides to sleep in Anton's room, claiming she doesn't want to be alone. At night, they are awoken by strange sounds from outside, and investigates. Finds Anton's supposed brother Mattias, but before Anton can do anything, Mattias attacks them, kills several ponies. Topaz, Willow and Holly are injured in the fight, and it is unknown if they are alive or not.
As he tries to oppose his brother, Anton is himself thrown into darkness, and while holding Lilly's lifeless body, he fades away.
And there's the end of Black Dawn. Hopefully, the next story will answer some of your questions as to what is going on. As far as I can remember, all of these things have been mentioned one way or another at some point in Black Dawn..

2713333 It's a shame I had to censor so much in this timeline. There's so much that haven't been revealed yet, so much... And honestly; this is maybe... I don't know, a fourth of the actual timeline. So you can imagine just how deep it goes
