Crossing a Line · 2:12am Dec 12th, 2014
Lately my work on "Grounded for Life" is hitting a slow pace at the moment with a mix of other responsibilities and writer's block. The first is not a large issue but the second has been a large one for more recent chapters I have been working on. I think what has been causing hesitation or making me second guess some ideas that I have been trying to put into words is a fear of crossing a certain line. To go into some more detail I have been a fan of a popular OC and this particular OC was going interact with my OC Steelbolt and will play a large part in later works of my story. Plus I have been placing a few hints on who it may be. Now I fully intend to give its creator proper credit when he/she makes an appearance but what I am worried about is the kind of reaction I may get from those who are have been currently reading my story so far and liking it. As much as I want to include this OC I have been having thoughts on what the reactions of the readers would be which to me may include a possibly large amount of negative feedback. Now as popular this OC can be and as much as I adore it I fully intend to keep the main focus on my Steelbolt. This OC is just going to be a support and not a main character but still I fear what the readers reactions could be.
Now I trust TP-Nights advice that he had given me so far and the current chapter he is reviewing has a single line in it as a hint to events that had happened off screen. If he catches on to it I trust he may offer advice on how to handle it.
Until I get his feedback I would like to ask anyone who took the time to read this. What would you describe as crossing the line with someone else's OC, even though they have permitted the use of it as long as credit is properly given. What would you say the boundary should be to insure that this story continues on its positive track and not end up going over a cliff because a certain name gets mentioned?
