Why I Hate the Depection of Pinkamena Diane Pie as a Psychopath · 9:51pm Dec 9th, 2014
Good evening my fellow bronies and causal fans of MLP: Friendship is Magic, this afternoon I have something that I wanted to talk about for a while now. The depection of Pinkamena Diane Pie(the straight haired Pinkie Pie) as a sadistic psychopath and why I hate that depection of her. I know that there are many depections of her on Deviantart that range from her being sad and sorrowful to her being extremely excitable and caring towards others. Today, I'm her to talk about the reasons I HATE the depection of her as a sadistic murderer(with a few exceptions, like in dark fanfictions on this site like The X Series by another user on this site named Pinkamena666.)
1. It doesn't fit into her character very well( with a few exceptions like very dark stories like The Pinkamena Series , or the X Series). I don't know how Pinkamena Diane Pie and the Pinkie Pie from the fanfic Cupcakes and it's many sequels got fused together, since in Cupcakes and it's many sequels it has the poofy haired Pinkie instead of the straight haired Pinkamena killing other ponies and and making them into cupcakes and other pastries with a smile on her face.
2. The fanfic Cupcakes was written right in the middle of season 1, around the time that the ep Call of the Cutie aired, sometime at the beginning of 2011 while The Cutie Mark Chronicles and Party of One aired sometime around April of that year. By the way I love the ep Party of One, because it's where Pinkamena makes her first major appearance.
So those are my reasons why I LOATHE the depiction of her as a sadistic murdering psychopath.
The underlying assumption is that Pinkie is only nice or even decent in her treatment of others because she's incredibly cheerful and silly; that Pinkie in a bad or even just sad mood (her mane normally deflates from sadness) would somehow become an amoral, malevolent murderess. It implies that Pinkie has neither real intelligence nor moral integrity.
IMO Pinkie Pie is a supergenius with a strong sense of honor. She entertains because she loves to bring joy and happiness, not because she's some airhead who can't figure out what else to do; she is good to others because she has a good heart, and she avoids immoral conduct because she is strongly honorable.
She is not some airhead who is just one bad mood away from mass murder. She is Pinkie Pie, the Element of Laughter, Bringer of Joy and Daughter of Paradise.
2643029 Well said Jordan. I hate the assumption that she's only nice in her treatment of others because she's extremely silly as well.
Pinkamena Diane Pie is smarter than what some people give her credit for.
I honestly think it's extremely overused because people tend to think:
"If it's ironic it's cool/funny/(in this case) creepy"
I just think the concept of taking an extremely enjoyable, cheerful, and just overall happy character and turning it into a phsycopath is a concept that is the definition of overdone. I almost see more Pinkamena fanart etc. then Pinkie Pie herself! They're almost ruining the character for me. :/ Just let a happy and cheerful character be a happy and cheerful character. Don't feel the need to change it into something dark just because it's ironic.
Don't get me wrong, I absolutely LOVE the way they did Pinkamena in the show, she's not a phsycopath there, she's just a bit sad and depressed because she is convinced that nobody wants to attend her parties anymore. That's it. And then, right after that people are portraying her as a murderer because she seemed a but "insane" in the episode.
I dunno, just my thoughts. Sorry if it was a bit like a rant, I don't like ranting. xD
