The Wizard of Words

Come what may and test what will, I always find peace in some form of writing. Be it famous, hidden, or simply my own, it is and forever will be a sanctuary.

    My Watcher Count broke 1100...

Well... gotta say that with my usual inactivity on this site now it is kinda surprising. Not saying I've given up writing or anything, just haven't been nearly proactive in making up new stories/chapters as I would have been half a year ago. But hey, I guess what I already made up is just that exciting. That always feels nice.

    Wizard, Where'd You Go?

Okay, not a big update, not a major explanation, nothing catastrophic happening. Promise.

Mainly, I'm just very busy. I have three jobs, working on a thesis project for my Biomedical Engineering Masters, writing five stories at once right now, and working on a joint project with another writer on this site (that will come up later).

Which Story Sounds Best To You?

While I know many people may be sick of the fan requests at this point, it's less of how a story will develop and more of what one I should pursue first. Because honestly, I have outlines for all of them, artwork for all of them, and will probably write all of them at some point in time. The whole purpose of this short hiatus is to write something DIFFERENT, but there are so many different kinds

It's How I Know I'm A Writer · 7:23pm Dec 8th, 2014

Okay, yeah, don't worry. I got new chapters to For Sonnets and Harmony as well as The Same Mistake coming. I got their outlines all set. Now I have to paint in the colors, erase the lines, then add in the colors I think look better. It's my method and it works, so far...

Anyways, this is more of a way to let out a confession to stop myself from writing ANOTHER story. The title says it all really. I know I'm a writer when I get an idea for a story, and I just draft a quick novel in my head. It can be just about anything that sets it off really.

I mean, I can see an utterly meaningless picture, but then just add in a few characters, change an expression here or there, then I start thinking about what would put them in that situation? Who did what to make this happen? There's a story there, there has to be. It's one of my mottos that I've had not just for writing, but life really.

EVERYONE HAS A STORY TO TELL!

It doesn't have to be the story of their lives or anything, but everyone you know, I guarantee, is able to tell a story. It can be about how they over came a bully, ran away from a country, got into college, met first love, deal with a disease, freaking anything. I have a hell of a story of my diagnosis of Type 1 Diabetes, and my friend has got a story of how he went to college and dropped off the grid, all to escape his home. Seriously, even if you have a "boring" life, you've got a story, I bet my life on it.

Point is, cause I kind of diverted myself, is that a writer like myself is able to see those stories. They know what it takes to make a story and they do NOT want to waste the potential. Just because everyone has a story doesn't mean you should squander one for the other. Telling a story should be done as true and honestly as possible. Never change facts to change the morals. It does the original tale injustice.

Here, let me give you an example. You work online a lot, you get to see a lot of pictures. That's how 85% of my stories are first drafted, with seeing a pretty picture. The most obvious examples are probably The Study of Dual Female Reproduction and Unrequited. Both stories were completely inspired by the pictures alone.

Then I see a picture like this... and after reading a few Lovecraftian tales... I start to draft another novel in my head. Skyrim didn't help.

Do you know what happened when I saw this? I started thinking of how Twilight found the book, how long it's been since Herme-Mora back there has had a champion, what it would be like for book geek Twilight to walk through Apocrypha, and what it would all mean in the end. Then, because my brain works like the Flash on speed, I started thinking of how how Lovecraft gods, when they were awake, were tricky with deception, and how Twilight wouldn't be getting what she thought or doing what she supposed. Everything would be a trap for Herme to get what he wants.

Following a few hours of lore research and stories, and I drafted 10 PAGES of notes on a story I don't even know if I'll write, called "Dealing with Fate and Knowledge". Catchy, right?

So yeah, that's what writers do, we think of stories even when we know they should really take off. But we can't freaking help it! I'm sure Bats is in much the same boat as me, as it Tchernbog and MANY other writers. It's just... us...

That being said, I also dis recommend playing great games while writing. It's how crossovers of the worst kind occur. Like, I thought of combining Bastion with MLP. That would be crazy, right? Right....

Fluttershy singing. Discord singing. Dreams. Romance.

DANG IT!

Sooooo...any chance you might actually write that one? I've been hoping for a story based on that picture since I first saw it.

It'd probably shoot to the top of the featured box on the power of the cover art alone (assuming you use that image).

I'm still kind of hoping that One Last Game will make a comeback... Hey a guy can dream right?

Bastion was beautiful (Transistor less so) and had an amazing soundtrack. I still find myself singing Zulf's Theme. If you want a floating ruined city to complete the ensemble, you could always borrow Derecho from Gardez' Lost Cities.

Also, Twilight would be more likely to take over Apocrypha, much like the player does to Sheogorath's realm at the end of Shivering Isles.

"I AM HERMAEUS MORA, LORD OF SECRETS, GARDENER OF..."

*ELDER_SCROLL_WHACK!* "Shhh! Quiet."

"YOU DARE STRIKE THE PRINCE OF FATE IN HIS OWN SANCTUARY OF APOCRYPHA?."

*ELDER_SCROLL_WHACK!* "Quiet! Apocrypha is a library, and we do not raise our voices in a library."

"I SHALL... Er, yes. I apologize, Miss Sparkle."

I know that feeling, only I never actually write anything 'cause I'm a lazy butt.

I love that picture... any way to get a source link?

Also, would totally read that fic if you wrote it, definitely want to see something like that now.

There's a story there, there has to be.

The narrativium demands it!

Joking aside, If you truly see the world that way, I recommend reading this. If you're really interested there are even some references to the books.

Huh. Personally, I'm unlikely to write anything ever, (except my super picky review blogs), but I'm quite a fan, and I'd love to see you write the story you mentioned, Dealing with Fate and Knowledge. With your style, and the general theme, it seems like it would be a kickass read, and pertains to many of my interests including ponies and the Elder Evils from Beyond...

Though if I'm thinking along the same lines you did from that image, the "happy" ending barely qualifies, and everypony involved has a lot of issues to dig through.
... And now I'm hungry... Darn you and your tasty story suggestions!
