Finals over, maybe start writing again · 8:33am Jun 24th, 2012
Incidentally, I'll leave this message: DESPERATELY IN NEED OF A PROOFREADER
So, here's what I intend to do about FLCL:
*Create a fanfiction.net account where I'll store the story of Utmost/Atomsk/LupinV. As it is, it give away too much information, too quickly.
*I intend to follow this tactic in general when it comes to characters, their backstories and motivations: I'll write those for my own benefit, and maybe release them once the story's done. This is an attempt to be true to the spirit of FLCL, where that sort of information was released very sparingly, and it was hard to make sense of what happened, kind of like a riddle. It's also to avoid "info dumps" as they are often derisively called.
About other stories: other concepts I'm thinking of working on are:
*Spike's dream of being a Saint Chevalier and Knight In Shining Armor: I'll be aiming for something of a mix between Don Quixote's meta-fictional parody on one hand, and an exploration realistic expectations on the role a Knight would play in Equestria.
*Avatar the Last Airbender: I want to cross these over, but I'm having trouble deciding on where I want to be between the two. The problem with Bending in the ponyverse is that it relies a lot on human martial arts. That's already troublesome to represent in writing, but with ponies... I could use the classic three types of pony magic, but then the Avatar's role as Master of all Three Magics is already filled by the Princesses. In other words, getting Avatar into Equestria is difficult. But what about getting Equestria into Avatar? Instead of using the three races of benders, one could have three races of "humans". Ardi ("earthians"), Icarii (from Icarus, kind of like the winged men in Flash Gordon), and Oni (horned people), Plus maybe a fourth, near-extinct race, that I'd have to come up with... Right now, my mind is drawing a blank there.
*Adventures in the Middle East: I'll probably just take the Arabian Nights and throw the Mane Six (or perhaps a local equivalent) into those situations. To my great regret, you may have to expect some lewd raunchiness: it's just the way Arabian Nights are. At least I'll try to make all the fan-service somewhat relevant.
There will probably be lots of delay too: I'm researching writing (as in, reading books about good writing, good style, and so on). The Avatar thing will require some research on martial arts. The Spike thing will require that I reread Don Quixote, and that will require that I give the classic Chivalry novels a good read as well. This will take time, so I need to prioritize.
And now I'm scared. And I'm wary. AND I'M STILL DESPERATELY IN NEED OF A PROOFREADER.
Also, if I'm going to write down every thought, it would probably be a good idea to just create a Tumblr account and post that stuff there, since otherwise there would be too many spoilers.
I also would like to write a Daring Do story called "Sons of Primus". Basically it's "Transformers" meets "Kingdom of the Crystal Skull", with maybe a bit of "Alien VS Predator" thrown in.
